When you have a Macbook, you need a USB hub - and I have had Belkin hubs eventually overheat and short out and ruin several peripherals. These Iogear hubs are top notch, great quality and they run very very cool. I have purchased two of them and plugged one into each USB port on my MacbookPro. They work *flawlessly*. The only thing I will tell you is that I went out and looked for an 18" USB cable to keep my cable mess to a minimum - the cable that came with the hub was probably 3' long and I didn't need it that long. Also, the two ports on the front of the hub made using this hub extra convenient. I am generally happy with Iogear products and I opt for their brand whenever it's available to me after the repeated bad experiences and expensive damaged equipment I had with Belkin.

My Vista Dell Inspiron came with a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. With only three other USB ports after plugging in my Magic Jack I found myself swapping USB plugs for my periferals (Sony DSC, Terabyte drive and 200GB drive, Pinnacle movie sturio breakout box, Zune Mp3 player, Zen Mp3 Player, etc...)
Not to mention that all USB ports are not created equal. some have power to spare, others not so much.
I purchased this IOGear 7-port powered USB hub to solve these problems.
I unpacked the unit. I love that it comes with a vertical option for less desktop space. I plugged everything into it. I plugged it into my computer and the transformer into the plug-strip.
Everything works without a hitch. the hub recognizes new plugin connections like camera and Mp3 players faster than the computer.
It is like having a second computer. No hassle, no maintenance, a total relief.
the unit is well built and attractive to boot! (no pun intended).

The seven port (POWERED) hub is perfect for my application. The rubber, detachable base is the weak part as it will not support the hub will all ports in use; I fashioned a holder that allows for one-handed plug in of USB devices. The hub is attached to my desktop and is plugged into a back port allowing me to use the front ports. The included transformer allows for the ports to be powered without drain on the PC's power supply.

I ran out of ports on my computer so I really needed this product. It was extemely easy to set up. You do need an electrical outlet to plug it into in order to make it work. Once I got everything connected, when I turned off my computer, the Spyder Pro 3 blue light stayed lit so I unplugged that from the hub and directly into the computer. Now everything is fine. I didn't realize it came with its own USB cable. If I did, I wouldn't have bought one to go with it.

This hub is just what I needed to relieve my (too many USB devices, not enough ports) problem. It works very good, is fast, compact, looks good on my desk, clean layout, 5 ports are on the back for a clean look and 2 ports are on the front at an angle for USB memory sticks or tempoary connection of external devices like; MP3 Players, scaners or portable HD. Easy to manage all the cables (it doesn't look like an Octopus with cables all around the desk). I gave it 5 stars for the clean and elegant design.

Running Widows 7. Plugged it in and done. Great solution to the tangle of USB cords on my desk. Transmission rate seems very good. I use a Logitech m505 wireless mouse and can plug the receiver into the hub rather than directly into the computer with no loss of responsiveness.
