exactly what it is suppose to do. I use it to shoot at lower exposure settings, to gain depth in photographs, where there is no allowance for vibration. It is not possible to do this without the help of this device, must be mounted on a tripod. No photographer should be without it if they want enhanced quality in their pictures.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
I hadn't had a mechanical cable release for years, but needed one for my Fuji X-100. B&H, as usual, offered a wide range of choices, but I went with the Nikon AR-3 because it appeared to offer high quality, the cloth cover I prefer and a reasonable price. I haven't been disappointed - this cable release seems very well made, operates smoothly and appears to be durable. Pretty much all you need in a cable release.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
This release is quite well made. I've had a few of the years and they've never frayed or split. The locking mechanism has always worked and I've gotten to the point where I can lock it up (and release it) with one hand, which is quite nice. Nikon usually makes good equipment and this is no exception. I have lost a few, though.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
This is a replacement for a longer one I had for nearly 20 years. It was not Nikon. The construction on this one is better, woven cloth sheath instead of plastic. The plastic eventually separated from the ends rendering it useless. I have seem folks complain about the shorter length. I have not found that to be a problem. I might even prefer it for taking less space in the bag and more usable.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
Great cable, works on manual Nikon cameras like the FE/FM series, and also on medium and large format cameras like the Hasselblad. My only complaint is that it's a tad on the short side, 18" might be a little more useful, but it's a small complaint. Built well, will stand up to lots of abuse, I highly recommend it!

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
Bought this for use with my Nikon F3, for long exposures/remote release and to add to my ever expanding collection of photography gear. Needless to say, this is a useful piece of kit, but was pleasantly surprised that it worked with my Holga 135PC, which is incredibly useful for a pinhole camera. It functions a little clunkily in the Holga, but works well enough.
Can be locked to hold shutter open, or operated in standard bulb mode. Would ideally like something longer than 12", but that's being fussy. Fantastic product that does what it says on the box.

Very well constructed and does the job, but it would be better if it were longer. Use this one for travel as it is smaller.

This unit is short, but much higher quality than others I have owned. I should have bought this one first instead of trying to save money on a no-name one that failed quickly.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
I bought this for my FM2N and F4. It works well, but it took me several minutes to figure out how the lock works! Maybe I'm just dumb, but it's probably because this is my very first traditional cable release (I was raised on digital, so I'm used to the 10-pin). It would have been nice if Nikon included instructions or even just a picture with a few words.

I use it on my Nikon FE. This cable release work well when I need to use it. Not a complicate product. So, not much to say. Just wish Nikon can make cable a little bit longer.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
I use this cable release with 100% mechanical cameras: Leica M6, Yashica 124 G (medium format TLR) among others. Usually for night/twilight shots with a tripod. My older cable release was a generic brand and over time it started getting stuck in the pushed in position, making me waste many shots. So I wanted to get something very reliable and very smooth. I think I have found it.

I use this on my Rolleiflex and Yashica Mat 124G. There were cheaper cable releases, but the salesperson pointed me to this Nikon (didn't even know Nikon made these). Works flawlessly, and like most things Nikon, will probably last me a while.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
Since I add one of these cables to my order almost every time (to put onto yet another shutter+lens for my 4x5) I get to review it again and again. The AR-3 is worth buying again & again. It is both reliable and semi-indestructible, and costs less than some house-brand releases. If you need one, just buy it. You won't be sorry.

Comments about Nikon AR-3 Mechanical Cable Release f/ D100 & Other Cameras:
This little release costs less than many others, lasts longer, is more durable, and is easier to use. It features a screw-down collar which positively holds the release open only when you want it to, so that the release returns instantly when that's what you need. No nasty surprises, like some I've tried. Just wish it came in more different lengths, but the one is adequate for most uses
