Good value and, as others have said, the picture is inaccurate - outside knob is XL.

I use the product for tabletop shoots. I like the oversized handle that lets you tighten and loosen the donut easily. Smooth action at an excellent price.

The main handle of this grip head is different from that depicted in the photo of the product.
It is bigger, never-the-less operated this more precision.
This grip head does what it is designed to do at a decent price.

Comments about Impact Grip Head - 2.5" - Chrome:
So what you get is a "better-than-standard" avenger/matthews style grip head for a few bucks less, with first class milling and plating. It's better because you get a solid aluminum washer (not sure if the big boys do that in all their heads - used to be fiber that would deteriorate, leaving you with a head that could kill lights or even people) AND the openings for booms and flags are ridged, giving great grip. And finally, the tightening knob... it's HUGE. This makes it much easier to torque it down (and release it)... but it will come as a shock when you first unpack it (I was like, "did they send junior gear??!?!"). It's a nice feature, but if your packing setup is tight, you may have to rethink - though most folks likely transport these in a box, dairy crate, or already on a stand (which means your stand bags could be a little stressed).

Comments about Impact Grip Head - 2.5" - Chrome:
It's well-machined, will last forever, and has a nice dependable feel when you tighten it. It's not going to slip loose or anything. Just as good as the "top-tier brand" (I have both).
The flat black ones look a little bit nicer, but you're not sacrificing quality with this one, and you're saving money.

This is a great piece of gear, especially for the price. I compared it to the Avenger and Matthews grip heads, and after reading the positive reviews I decided on the Impact head since it was around $10 cheaper.I am totally satisfied - it is completely solid, and an excellent value.

I'm using it on a light stand with a Pearstone mount to suspend my boom pole for audio recording. It is well made and rock solid. The picture must be old because the actual device is better than pictured. The handle for tightening attachments is at least twice as large, thicker, and rounder/more ergonomic than the one pictured. Was very pleasantly surprised!

I bought this product to use with the Pearstone
Boom Pole Holder. This clamps right to my stand and holds securely. Add a counterweight/sandbag and it works perfectly.

I was about to put a couple more Matthews heads in my cart when I saw the Impact head at a better price. We were only going to use them in studio to round out our flags and scrims so I took a chance. Glad I did. Great construction. Love the spring loaded plate. I will be looking at their gear in the future.

This is one of the best things I have ever purchased I use the grip head for holding Cookie patterns, backdrops, scrims, flags, reflectores mic boom poles and a boom pole attached to a Light stand to extend a backlight over my talent, I love these grip Heads and for the price you can't beat it.

Exactly what I was after. Very well designed and much bigger that what appeared in the photo of the item listing. Acutally I wasn't sure to get this one or the Avenger... so I bought both. When they arrived they were very similar, but the Impact version was of a much higher build quality. The avernger still had small metal splinters - one came off in my thumb. Next time I'll just get the Impact version.
By the way, although the photo makes it look black, it is silver (chrome) - very chrome.

1. I used this grip head to mount a boom mic holder to a mic stand.
2. It has two provisions to mount onto mic stands of various diameters. I could see other uses for it. Very solid construction.
3. No downsides.
