Not compatible with 35mm or digital cameras with larger image sensor than APS-C size
The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC lens is specially optimized for digital SLR cameras, and offers an "all-in-one" super-zoom lens solution. This lens provides the equivalent focal range of approx. 29-320mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera(*).
It's design incorporates aspherical lenses and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass that provides the utmost correction for all types of aberrations and enables this extended super-zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction.
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is made to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.
Note! (*) Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or for any digital SLR camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size, e.g. 1D series or Kodak Pro SLR/c.

I am a photo/journalist with plenty of great, expensiveequipment but this light, versatile lens hooked up with myCanon 20-D suits me perfect for a carry-around. For streetfestivals, news shots, outdoor parties and even when I shootad copy shots, I just reach in my car trunk and this all-purposecombo lens captures what I need and doesn't slow you downwith weight. Just last week, I saw an elderly gentleman leaning upagainst a brick red, brick building with a typical Southernsummer outfit(straw hat and all) on and man, I nailed theshot perfectly and it's hanging on my office wall right now. If you want to drag your L lenses around and switch 'emout or worry about what ones to take to a gig you knowlittle about or what distance you'll be shooting from...and it'soutside, you'll love this lens.
Expertise: Veteran professional photo/journalist...have been in 4 shows, locally
Problems Encountered: It's light gathering is limited so don't expect it to takegreat shots at a distance...

This lens is ok for people who just started with photo as a hobby, or the ordinary family camera lens.
The zoom area is great, build og lens is decent, but the the optical quality could be better.
Colors and sharpness are suffering on longer range, even when stopped down.
Maybe the IS version is better?

I use it as my everyday general purpose lens with my Rebel XSI: Kids action and family photos, nature (Deer, Squirrel, birds, etc.) and aviation photography (sailplanes and aero-shows). It performs great and the image quality is very good.

Lightweight, has the ranges that I am interested in when traveling. Great to have one lens instead of switching between lenses.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I purchased this lens based on reading others' reviews of it.
Basically I was tired of switching back and forth from the default Cannon lens and my Zoom lens.
I go to construction jobsites and take close-up pictures of heavy equipment and work in progress.
In order to achieve this I was walking around with the two lenses, switching back and forth multiple times in a dusty environment, which I didn't think was great for the camera as lenses were switched back and forth.
Since many reviewers purchased this lens for the same or similar reasons, I bought it.
What I have found is exactly what I had hoped for.
It offers a nice flexibility for either close-ups or a nice zoom. While it may not get as close as the stock lens or as far as the zoom, I find the range to be acceptable for my needs, and what I have found is a lens that now stays on my camera body almost all of the time.
I was also happy with the price and had heard nothing but great things about the Sigma lenses.
I may eventually purchase a nicer zoom then the one I currently have, and would likely opt for the Sigma for that lens too.
I am not a pro photographer, but have been an avid photo enthusiast for 25 years.
I have been using it for a good couple weeks now, and though I haven't put it through its complete paces, I haven't had any gripes to speak of.
While some with greater needs for photography may find some shortcomings, I personally find this to be a fantastic all purpose lens for my needs.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
Bought as a cheap lens to replace the kit lens on a 7D. Feels "plasticky" and cheap. Focus ring on manual feels too loose. I'm not a gonzo pixel-peeper, but the images weren't as crisp and sharp as I expected. For a cheapo lens, I suppose it's pretty good, but we needed a little more quality. Seems like everything is made like this now. Chincy.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I got this lens to replace my current two lens setup (18mm-55mm and 55mm-200mm) with a single multi-purpose lens that will allow me to take a good mixture of wide-angle and telephoto shots. This is a great "walking around" lens and works fairly well in low light, the only draw back is that the minimum F-stop is only a 3.5 so in extreme lighting conditions the performance does suffer. Although the lens does not have an Image Stabilization feature I did not notice an impact in my shots even when using the full 200mm.

I started to take pictures a few months ago and found this lens on web. It has good price and performance for begineer users. Disanventage is it is not supported image stabiliser but anyway you can take good nature pictures. Also it is comming with lens hood.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I really like this lens because it is a wide lens.. I have only used it a couple of times because I just purchased it. I have found I do favor this lens more because I can do everything without switching out lenses. I am still experimenting with lenses but this one out ranks my kit lenses tremendously. This is my second lens by Sigma and I really like them and the price is really reasonable for people who are on a budget.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
Its an okay lens.
Mine has been back to Sigma for service 2 times now, because the images are always soft.
Even on a big picture with good DOF (f.8 @ 25mm) there is lots of stuff in focus, but nothing is ever tack sharp like my other lenses.
Definitely NOT an indoor sports lens, because once you zoom from anything over 20, the f-stop drops really fast.
For a travel lens the flexibility is great.
For my all-in-one travel lens, I prefer my Tamron 18-270VC, as images appear much sharper than my Sigma.
For a multi-purpose lense on a tight budget, this one is a good choice. Mine is still being used (on another camera body), and it has been with me for several years.

I really haven't had a chance to run this through it's paces. But everything I have tried has been pretty good. Focusing is ok I guess I wish it was a little faster. Overall it saves me from needing to switch from my T1i's kit lens to my zoom all the time. Great buy at the price.

I have been on the search for this type of lens for many months, and now that i have it, i am super excited. I am able to take the pictures i have always wanted, especially distant landscape without the image being distorted. The wide angle shot is impressive also. In fact, i forgot about the wide angle capability until i realised objectives were appearing on the screen that i never thought the lens could see. I have only had the lens for two weeks and as yet i have no complaints. I am very happy. The price was ideal [...]

Excellent all purpose lens which captures near-wide angle shots at 18mm and zooms out to capture long range with its zoom up to 200mm. Also includes the tulip lens hood which is great at preventing any glare from the sun from entering the lens. Has a very quick auto focus and pictures turn out very nice and color acurate. Also enjoy the lense lock switch which prevents the lens from zooming out when carrying around. Definately a plus for any size lens arsenal!

So far I love this lens. I have not had the "creeping" issue that others speak of on here, so possibly it was dealt with. My photos are much sharper, it has a high speed auto focus and is no louder focusing than my Canon lenses. Great product!
