The 72mm Skylight L1BC (1A) Filter from Nikon has a slight pink tint to it that adds a bit of warmth to the image. This is beneficial when you are shooting outside on a cloudy day or under open shade since it will help bring skin tones back to a more pleasing tone.
A skylight filter is also used as a general protection filter to help protect your optics. Its value also lies in preventing dirt, dust and fingerprints from contaminating your front lens element. If desired, it can be left on at all times. This filter is also valuable for use when using electronic flash since it will help remove some of the blue generated by the flash.
- Slightly pink color adds warmth to the image that is a benefit when the light is excessively gray such as shooting in open shade or cloudy days
