The JBL Duet Computer Speaker system provides smooth and accurate sound for any portable music player or computer. The Duet uses patent pending Tangential Strain Relief (TSR) technology. With TSR you get extra bass and lower distortion. The neodymium magnet creates more power and sensitivity. The Duet system also uses a proprietary port design which enhances the bass performance. The Harman Multimedia Phoenix SE transducer is another technology critical to the Duet. This unique full range transducer was designed specifically for small speaker enclosures while providing significant low bass. The result is a small and elegant satellite speaker that provides superior low bass, midrange and highs.

In terms of sound quality, these are pretty good speakers for the price.
Do not expect great sound (they are great considering the cost they are, but there is a reason some speakers cost $100 or even $2,000+ a piece). The bass seems artificially pumped up (probably done to overcome the small size of the drivers in these types of speakers) which makes the lows and low-mids a little muddy, but again, we are talking about inexpensive speakers, the effect isn't all that bad, and these JBL's are still significantly better than what you might find bundled with your desktop (and certianly better than the built-in speakers on most every laptop). They work fine for watching video clips online and other audio tasks in everyday computer use.
My only semi-serious gripe is what someone else touched on: the power/volume knob which you turn to power on the speakers and then keep turning to raise the volume is fairly stiff to turn, and since this knob is shaped like a dome or cone, when you squeeze it hard enough to be able to turn it, the nob squeezes out from between your fingers. I have to hold the speaker with one hand and and turn the knob with the other. Since I have not heard this complaint in every review, it seems like there just may be some units (like mine) that somehow end up with a stiffer turning knob than they should, causing the problem. Yours may or may not have this issue. I don't know.
Again, I feel the sound quality is good considering the cost.

Sound is very good, impressive for low-cost, versatile speakers. The single combined on/off/volume button is terrible, one of the worst I've ever seen. it's extremely hard to turn. It's too small, feels like absolutely sleek round stainless steel with no place to grip. The front comes to a point, and the ridges there, intended to add grip to the button, are far too small to do much good. A simple, standard knob would have been much better.

I like these speakers because they are light, durable and give out a great sound for computer speakers. I had this same model before and when I needed a new pair of speakers for a new computer, I went searching for these. For the price, you can't beat them.

We are using these speakers for music playing off our netbook and are very pleased with the performance, rignt down to low-end bass. Clear sound combined with stylish good looks makes for a winning combo. No negatives to mention - would buy more for other computer or sound setups in the house.

Best ever. Size and price are great for the sound. When I'm listening to it, it seems like there is a subwoofer hidden somewhere. The heat is a little more than other speakers.

I used to had good-quality computer speaker, I used to use 2.1 channel speaker and 5.1 channel speaker. Compared to them, this speaker's sound is not worse. I really surprised when I listened this sound.

Set up these speakers today; played 'Freedom Fighters' with it and was a *little* disappointed that it started crackling when I turned up the volume. For the size they do have a great sound though! I would recommend these for people who just wanted to listen to something quietly at their desk.

One can absolutely NOT find a better deal in portable sound anywhere... These, relatively, small speakers produce maximum volume with such clarity that it is really unbelievable that the price point is under $50.... I have, honestly, purchased no fewer than 6 sets as gifts for friends... and will continue to do so until they stop production on these little beauties...
