The Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord is for use with Nikon D70s and D80 Digital SLR cameras. It adds greater convenience and ease of use in a wide variety of shooting situations, including long exposures and close-ups. Using the remote reduces camera shake for sharper images and the remote allows users to lock the camera shutter in Long Time Exposure (Bulb) mode. The cord is 3.3' (1 m) long.

I first bought a knock off version of this and it broke after a couple days use so I figured I would go ahead and buy the real one. It feels very sturdy and well constructed even though it is made out of plastic. It is very simple to use, you just plug it into the camera (I'm using a D80) and you are ready to go!
I use it almost anytime I put my camera on a tripod, even on very study ground you will get some camera shake if you manually press the shutter release. I know some of you are saying, "why not use the self timer!?" Well...I will never use the self time again (aside from portraits) because that self timer made me miss the perfect shot. I was shooting a restaurant by a pier and two Egrets (a large white bird) landed on either side of the pier (framing the restaurant) and I hit the shutter...only to loose the picture because of the 2 second self timer. I was shooting at night so no self timer was not possible. If I had this product I would have got the shot and probably made some money on it, it was that good!
Great product, I would recommend this to anyone who uses a DSLR.

The first MC-DC1 Remote Cord by Nikon lasted only a few weeks before it started comming apart at the plug-in element for the D80. I ordered an new one from B&H, after being assured that i was a fluke and the new one is stronger than that. The new one is just as flimsy and I am worried for its future. Treat is with care, as it prbably won't survive minimal trauma.

I wish to comment on the shipping, i.e. UPS/USPS combined is the worst combination imaginable. Now that I have experienced this new flavor of shipping, I will never knowingly use it again.

I recently purchased this item from B&H [...] Tested it, like it. Very simple to use with great results with my Nikon D-90. Plugs right into a dedicated port on the camera and you are ready for action.B&H price beat the others by more than 20.00.Thanks

I have not yet used it on a tripod, long exposure as it's designed for but I have at least determined that it _will_ work with my Nikon D80 when required.

an ok product but the cable is far too short. In order to work well it should be at least 6 feet long.

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
Primary use is on a tripod-mounted camera for extended shutter opening @ night or macro work. Works great but wish the cord was longer. Have only had it for a short time so it's too soon to judge reliability or durability

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
When I got my MC-DC1, I plugged it in, turned on the camera, pushed the shutter release button and took a picture. It could not be easier to set up and use. I'm a portrait photographer so the remote cord will allow me to maximize stabilization and reduce blur..plus, it enables me to keep more eye contact with the client. It's a handy and inexpensive addition to my gear.

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
The remote cord is needed asset for long exposures. I have used this many many times and I have never had any trouble with it. Excellent remote cord. I really like the lock for the shutter release button for those extra long exposures it has proven to be a excellent feature on this particular cord.

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
The DC-1 feels small, cheap and light, but works perfectly well on the D70s. The DC-1 doesn't fit in your hand as nicely as, say , the MC-20 10 pin. The little rubber flap on the camera that covers the DC-1 insert slot is easily lost, so remove it, put it in your pocket, and replace it once you're done. The DC-1 plugs into the camera nice and snug – no worries. Careful when pulling it out though - the wire is flimsy. Also, the thin wire isn't solid enough to stay wrapped around a tripod head for ease of carrying. I put an elastic around my tripod head to keep the DC-1 locked down when walking. The wire gets very stiff and rather unmanageable when cold (below freezing). In comparison, the Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control (Infrared) is poorly designed, with no loop for a retaining string (for around your neck), and so is easy to lose. The supplied little "case" is pointless. I have lost 3 ML-L3s, and so for me the DC-1 cable is much better.
