The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens offers an ultra-wide zoom solution to digital cameras, and was exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. The super wide-angle capability of this zoom lens (equivalent range of approx. 16-32mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera (*) makes it a very powerful tool for both indoor and landscape photography.
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is made to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result, these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.
Note! (*) Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or for any digital SLR camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size, e.g. 1D series or Kodak Pro SLR/c.

Overall this is a perfect super wide angle lens to upgrade to for the money. There is a model above this with an f/3.5 for [$] however; i would save that money and by this lens. I have a Canon 40D and out of the box this lens worked flawless and i have been taking near perfect landscape photos and some good wide angle close-up shots. I normally will splurge for a Canon lens before going third party but this lens has sold me on Sigma products and i am already looking at a super telephoto lens by Sigma now. I did my research and many experts tried to downplay this lens which made me a bit worried however; after using for two weeks straight now, I love it. Yes, it has distortion/vignette issue (what wide angel doesn't) if you use Lr or Ps this should go away with a click of a mouse and the shots are still amazing without the correction. Does it blur at the edges? Yes, (so does many other super wide or fish eye lenses) however; you will not see it until you zoom in almost 300-400%. Again if you have Lr or Ps this goes away with a simple click of a mouse. If you want a nice wide angle lens that will compare to the Canon 10-22mm then buy this lens, you will not regret it. If you never used one before there is a slight learning curve using focusing point when shooting, if you do not place the focusing point on the furthest object or set the focus on the lens to infinity, you will get blurred backgrounds on your images. This is probably common with most super wide angle lenses it just may not be something people talk about much because they know how to compensate with the focus point. Also, buy the UV filter and put it on the lens immediately after you remove the lens cap. Fish eye lenses love dust and hair and it will do it fast and before i could screw on my UV filter there was already three pieces of lint on it!One more thing this thing is silly light to handle (my wrist likes me again)and has not fogged up once going in/out doors so do not worry about it. A wave splashed on it yesterday and the water beaded off the without going into the seams so, it has some protection built in for that low price as well. {:>)

I bought this lens for my trip to Italy.
But first I tested it at home. My major gripes at that time were that it is quite soft wide open, especially at the corners. My copy was clearly softer on the left side. Dropping to f/8.0 fixed softness issues fairly well, but sometimes, you cannot afford to drop to such a low aperture.
A perfect example of this *was* the trip to Italy where often the photos were taken inside dark places (churches and sometimes museums) where every bit of light counts. I had to open up the aperture and as a result, the quality at the edges was substantially degraded.

Anxious to use the lens as soon as I received it. It did not disappoint. It takes wonderful WIDE pictures, giving a great depth of field. I purchased the lens for primarily landscape pictures. As a few other reviews noted, there is considerable distortion when photographing a subject at close range; however this is expected for such a wide angel lens. I would recommend this lens. The lens has a solid, well built feel. It does have an extremely snug fit when attaching to the camera body.

I have always been apprehensive about buying a third-part lens and have never done so until now. I currently own the 17-40L lens and use it on my crop body; however, it wasn't wide enough. But I decided to get the sigma rather than go full frame or pay canon prices.
First impressions are great. The lens has a solid build and is quite sharp! It controls flare as well as my 17-40L and produces nice colors. The focus ring is smooth and easy to control. It is also a LOT wider on a crop body than my 17-40L (which was the point). The only complaint I have is that the autofocus does not work as well in low light, which I expected. My canon lenses focus better in low light (I tried them all). But for landscapes it's great! I would be apprehensive before shooting in low light for a paid gig though.

I field tested this lens at all f stops and 3 focal lengths when I got it. It passed okay, but once in action the left side of the images was unreasonably soft in a high percentage of photos. Lens was never impacted or dropped. Defect more prominent when camera is laid on back for cathedral ceiling shots, as if an element inside is not secure. At least one other review mentioned this also. I am reluctant to invest in a repair and will choose another manufacturer's product. Would not recommend.

I do not want to say this lens is worthless, so I gave it 2 stars. I use this lens with my Canon 60D for real estate photographs. It focuses very quickly, which is great. It takes 77mm filters, which makes it nice considering many of the popular L lenses take 77mm filters as well. The major downsides to this lens are the soft focus and the non-uniform distortion.
The soft focus is very apparent even when stopped down to f/8 or f/10 even at 10mm. I expected to get much larger depths of field, and even the parts of the shot that are in focus are not tack sharp. I have found that I cannot use this lens when photographing interiors of buildings as it cannot provide sharp enough images.
It also has crazy distortion, which is not always problem, if the distortion was uniform, but it is not. This makes it almost impossible to batch correct the distortion even when every camera setting is the exact same from shot to shot.
I would not recommend this lens. Spend the extra money and get the Canon 10-22.

This lens works like a charm! I've been searching for a reasonably priced wide angle lens that has a that BANG I needed for shooting video. This took the prize. I've used a few in the past, but this one certainly gives me that look and feel I've been searching for while filming. I'll be working on just about all of my film projects with this from now on. Accompanied by one of the best wide angle ratios, the weight is tolerable compared to others, the quality is gorgeous and the auto focus runs smooth with no interruption or friction. A definite buy.

I use this lens for interior, real estate photography which requires a wide angle. This lens produces good quality, clear photos. The autozoom is satisfactory. And for the price, it really can't be beat. Unfortunately, it has some pretty wicked barrel distortion and it's sometimes difficult for me to line up my verticals in shots.
