The Petrol PMH-3 Mini Hood is made to fit camcorders with 3.5" (16:9) diameter LCD panel on the monitor. The two-piece monitor hood reduces glare especially in bright sunlight. The hood is made of lightweight padded fabric with rigid internal panels. Mini Hoods can be positioned 90° or 180° on the monitor.

Though it's a little tough to figure out how to put it together the first time (the lack of instructions being the problem), once you figure it out, you'll realize that it's very simple and well designed. It's also nice that i can take it apart and pack it flat in my bag. Putting it together takes me less than a minute now that I've done it a few times, and it's very simple to do as it binds with clips, velcro and elastic. It covers the viewfinder of the EX-1 well, though it does feel a little loose, and there's no "sweet spot" that it settles into to let you know it's on right. But it does fit, and it doesn't try to jump off the thing. As far as function goes, this thing is a life saver under full sun, and it makes the LCD feel more like a proper viewfinder (as we all know the ex-1 viewfinder is pretty much useless).
All in all, for the price, you might as well order this accessory as it is indispensable when you're shooting outside under full sun.

It definitely helps when you shoot in bright sunlight. You have to be careful though because it puts a bit of stress in the LCD, you tend to bang it and in the long run if you are careless it might break the LCD

Fits the EX1 LCD perfectly! Only docked one star as *no* instructions are included. Not hard to figure out how to fold and fasten, but a little drawing would be nice. Great product!

This little guy would be a very good mini hood for 3.5 inch LCD's...except mine came with a Sony Z7 kit and it doesn't fit.
The construction is very good...the idea behind the design is good too. I like the extension sunshade that simply velcro's on.

Although this works pretty well to keep the LCD shielded, it's a real pain to put on. Definitely worth practicing with in case you have to put it on quickly.

I have a FX7 and focusing is a critical issue with HDV. The LCD resolution of the camera's display is not so good and one should really pay attention while focusing. This hood helps you get a better view on the LCD on sunny/bright situations that you otherwise would not be able to properly see what was on the screen.The LCD Hood fits well the FX7 and slightly blocks some of the side buttons, all you should do is rotate the LCD up a bit and there you go.If you have a FX1 it will fit nice and won't block anything.

Problems Encountered: I didn't receive any instruction manual with it so I had hone my spatial and geometrical skills a bit to mount it, after you do it the first time you don't have do it again.
