The Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set is an extended range infrared strobe-type wireless control system designed for professional and advanced amateur users of EOS cameras with the N3 remote control socket (EOS-1Ds Mark II, 1Ds, 1D Mark II, 1D, 5D, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, D60, D30, D2000, 1V HS, 1V, EOS 3, etc.) The LC-5 remote system is very handy for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure.
The remote fires the camera from a maximum distance of ~300' (90m), and several sets of LC-5 remotes can be linked together for greater distances. There are 4 control modes: single exposure, continuous exposure, test, and a 3.5-second delay mode. The 2-stage switch permits individual control of metering and shutter release, and can be switched to single-step mode if desired. Three transmission channels are available to prevent interference between adjacent units, as well as the "All" position for operating several cameras from 1 individual transmitter to multiple receivers.
The LC-5's receiver can be mounted on the camera hot shoe, but the set also comes supplied with a mounting bracket that leaves the hot shoe free for a flash. It is powered by 8 AA alkaline-manganese, NiMH, or NiCd rechargeable batteries (4 for transmitter & 4 for receiver).

I use this to capture birds in flight or landing on a prefocused feeding point. It allows me to put the camera VERY close (even use macro lenses) and yet not spook my subject. If you want to capture birds or animals that come to feed at known points, this is the best way to put your camera close to the subject without spooking the animals.
My only wish is that Canon would consider additional interface products for this like an infra-red tripping mechanism that would release the shutter instead of manual. Also, I would like to have the receiver sold seperate.

Nicely made, but at this price point, I expected more - the communication technology used in this remote is very basic. As a wildlife photographer, I need to prefocus on my place of interest and capture the action with small bursts of continuous shooting, but I find this device inadequate in 3 areas:
1) There is a distinct an annoying "lag" between pressing the button and getting the first shot
2) The shutter fires for quite a while after releasing the button (Canon 1D Mk 3) and
3) You need a very clear line of sight to the receiver - I miss many shots through not lining up perfectly, even at half the unit's stated range.

Great realiable controller... A little bigger and more basic than I had hoped but none the less works just fine.

Comments about Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set:
Nice features, nice range. If I had to criticize something it would be that the controller and reciever could each be smaller, more compact. The controller is the size of a cable TV remote control.

Comments about Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set:
I use this mainly with long telephotos for wildlife shoots. Given that it only operates line of sight, is bulky and expensive, the only good reason to buy is that it provides a secure and reliable connection to the camera. Third party brands, whilst perhaps providing more versatility, often have poor connections resulting, sometimes, in no release of the shutter when the button is pressed and lost opportunities.

Comments about Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set:
I use this mainly on wildlife photography to reduce the risk of camera shake when using long telephotos. My experience with 3rd party brands is that they have unreliable camera connections resulting in occasional press of the shutter button with no consequential release of the shutter and therefore lost picture opportunities. There's really not much other good reason to pay the exorbitant price as the product is limited to line of sight and, compared to 3rd party brands, quite cumbersome. It also lacks some, albeit not particularly important, features available on 3rd party brands.

Complete control within a 300 ft radius. Great for wildlife, candid shots of kids in a natural environment, self potraits and family photos(delay mode gives ample time to hide the transmitter). Easy to set up and use.

Comments about Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set:
The first day I received the wireless controller, I placed the receiver on my Cannon EOS 50D with macro lens and zoomed into certain flowers that hummingbirds were visiting in my garden. I then waited from my house for the hummingbirds to come to the selected flowers, set the transmitter and camera to rapid fire and produced some terrific closeup shots. This wireless controller was easy to set-up and has nice features that allow you to face the receiver in the direction of the transmitter. I have used it at distance of more than 100 feet so far with no problem.

It flawlessly operates my Canon EOS 50D for capturing hummingbirds feeding.
Caution should be used when buying one it may make you want additional cameras to better capture moving objects

Used for a wedding shoot and it exceeded my expectations! Received on Thursday and Shot on Friday. I set up two cameras and operated by remote. Had to, because I was "Father of the Bride". Love the product.

Comments about Canon LC-5 Wireless Controller Set:
It is really easy to use for distance shooting and macro shots. Don't have to do a lot of reading of the manual as it's pretty simple. However, wish the transmitter wasn't so big. It takes up a lot of room in the camera bag and you need a big pocket to carry it in.

This product works as advertised. I was surprised at the larger size of the unit. I thought it could have been built into a smaller package. The remote trigger is larger then it really needs to be.
