I use photography - as well as Photoshop - as a distraction from my chronic illness. I've always wanted to get a tent in order to just shoot items around the home and to expand my knowledge of different lighting and attempt some creative stuff as well.
At first I was amazed as it came folded up like a sun visor for the front window of a car. When it "popped" open I knew I was going to like it immediatly. But first I had to attempt to put it back together - wind it back up to fit in it's case (another pleasant surprise was the case). I did so rather easily and since then it's been on my table ready to go and I fool with it any chance I get and my health allows.

The idea behind the light shed is good. However the quality control is not as good. Right from the box the quality of the sticthing is poor,( some of the seams were starting to pull apart) This can be fixed without to much trouble. The few instructions on how to unfold and fold the tent are simple and easy to understand. The tent is easy to work with and the included backgrounds add to the useablity of the tent.

I bought the XL model because I figured I might need it for some large objects in the future. Right now I'm using it to photograph jewelry. The included backgrounds have some almost permanent creases in them. If you use it make sure it's far enough away so the folds are out of focus. The light shed does work well to diffuse the light and give an even illumination.

I used the light shed to photography plates and silverware. I like how easy it is to set up and break down the shed. It's also sturdy although the salesperson told me there are much sturdier ones. The included backdrops wrinkle very easy and are difficult to iron. Overall this is a great little light shed. I'd recommend it.

Perfect for product photography, it is big enough for my use. Openings on several sides. Foldable but sometimes it seems bulky.

The digital light shed was incredibly easy to set up, just popped into shaped and made photography jewelry very easy. It was very easy to collapse, as well. I would highly recommend the digital light shed. [...] the XL has worked well to commercially photograph jewelry.

I bought this light tent because I had to photograph some chocolate candies for a website. I'd never used a light tent, off camera flash, or done any type of product photography and to top it off I was on a very tight time schedule.
This tent was perfect. Quite affordable and great quality. It's very sturdy, comes with a black carrying case, a flexible plastic bottom and back, one white background and one white background. There is a horizontal zipper on the left hand side to allow for some access, but not for anything large. The entire right hand panel can be removed (it's velcro'd in place). The front panel has a flap that can be folded down or kept up at which point you can shoot through a horizontal zipper in the flap only exposing the lens to the inside of the tent and no other possibly reflections. The backgrounds have velcro on each corner to help secure them in the tent. They seemed a little long actually which surprised me but it didn't cause any problems.
For me the tent was basically an instant usable. Basically just pulled it out of the bag, "popped" it open, pulled up the plastic back and pushed it into place, ironed the backgrounds and then velcro'd them in place as needed.
I was able to shoot small objects and larger ones up to about the size of a small loaf of bread. You could shoot larger items but you'd have limited options for angle and how much the item fills the background of your shot.
Seemed to be really good at diffusing the light, but I could change the shadows inside by changing my lighting, so it's not 100%. But that's probably good. Additionally I should note what I was using for lighting: Canon 580EX Speedlite in a soft box, and a Canon 530EX Speedlite bounced at white umbrella.

I looked for one of these for a year. This one is big enough for most everything I do with my pottery. I love the speed and efficient way it folds out and then back down. The light seems to be difused really well so far. The Back Drop inserts are a little questionable. They have terrible folds that I cannot get out and the soft non reflective covering (especially the black one) leaves a lot of Fuzz attached to the shed after I am done. Has a lot of static with it but I am going to try a little anti static spray and see if this helps. I have a little carry case that keeps the whole thing clean and portable and away from my Cats!! The Velcro holders for the back drop are nice. So far, it has been a great buy and time saver.

I like how you can use this product horizontal or vertical. Two zipper options and one side, the entire panel can be removed for taller objects. I don't like how the bottoms curve. So in order to lay flat, I use a heavy book and then place the white panel over to create a sturdier surface.

Comments about Impact Digital Light Shed - XL:
Good product for the price.
Used for small and medium-sized items. Minimizes unwanted reflections.
Decent build quality and clever panels and openings.
Would like it to have Velcro in every corner so backgrounds could be configured in any orientation.
It's relatively large. You can actually fit your upper body inside to arrange items.
Black background is nice. Lit properly, and you don't need to do much post processing of creases. The white is less forgiving and so far, requires some Photoshop to take out the creases. Not sure if the backdrops can be ironed on a low setting to remove creases since the backing is a plastic material.
Also includes plastic bases for the tall and short direction. This works well for providing that reflective look on shots where you want that.
Overall, I'm happy with the tent.

I shoot historical objects for our local Historical society. Controlled lighting is important in order to show detail and reduce reflections. Access is very good for both object and camera. It opens and closes for storage quickly and can be stored behind a file cabnet
Wish I'd bought one long ago.

The whole kit set up is simple and fast. Takes up minimal space and folds down easy. I'm using it to photograph graphic design portfolio items (brochures) and its worked very well. Makes for nice even, balanced lighting. Nice to have black and white background. Word of caution: bulbs get HOT, and are delicate when HOT. My first set burned out in 2 days of shooting (6-8 hours of use). They started to hum in a high pitch, then, out they went. So if you're shooting a lot, buy extra bulbs.

Love this easy-to-use, easy-to-store light shed. We are using it for occasional product shots for ourselves ( my husband is a potter) and some clients ( I have a small grahic design/ad production company). The end result is a wonderful professional photograph. Should have done it years ago... it is so easy to use.
