Comments about K-Tek KE-79CC Traveler Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal Coiled XLR Cable:
I have worked in television location production for 27 years. I was worried about buying this pole because it isn't a carbon fiber pole... now that I have it I can tell you... carbon fiber is over rated. When comparing it to my carbon fiber poles of similar size, the weigh difference is VERY minimal. I may never buy another carbon fiber pole.
Seems very rugged and well made. Other sound guys have commented on its high quality. Don't hesitate save some money... buy this pole.

Comments about K-Tek KE-79CC Traveler Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal Coiled XLR Cable:
Folds down to a very small size, easy to fly with and throw in a backpack. Coiled cable means its ready to go quickly and you have one less cable to pack. The cable inside can bump around if you move the boom quickly, a decent suspension system and bass roll off will help this quite a bit. I'm sure the cable won't last forever but the convenience for me is more important. Not long enough for anything but relatively close shots, but great for run and gun in a crowded space. Cable uses high quality Neutrik and Switchcraft XLR connectors.

Comments about K-Tek KE-79CC Traveler Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal Coiled XLR Cable:
I like this boom, it's pretty compact. Kinda heavy, not carbon fiber for sure. It's solid though, and does the job, simple and straightforward. I noticed that the XLR connection on the bottom seems pretty solid and won't bust out and cause problems, like other boompoles I've used (the XLR connection would break loose and fall inside the pole). My only issues is that the coiled cord inside the pole bangs against the pole when you are moving the pole quickly, or running with the pole. This will be a problem with fast moving action shots where the pole has to move quickly or alot. Also, extending the pole can be a hassle when you get to the bottom two twisters, you have to hold both extensions to get the lug loose. Other than this, it's pretty simple and all around.

Comments about K-Tek KE-79CC Traveler Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal Coiled XLR Cable:
I use this boom pole for all my work. I make documentaries and travel light - so the KE-79CC is a great choice since it collapses to under 2 feet yet extends to over 7 feet! The internal XLR coil is of course a headache-preventer on set. Universal screw compatibility with all popular shock mounts and mic holders. Once in awhile the internal cable gets jammed when being collapsed back down to size, so that's what prevents this from getting a perfect score in my book. Nonetheless, a great buy!
