The Sigma 2x EX APO Tele Converter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Note: Sigma APO Tele Converter 1.4x and 2x are dedicated teleconverter lenses. Due to the high optical quality of this teleconverter, this item will only fit and work with a select list of lenses. Please click here for a compatibility chart of all compatible lenses.

The DG denotes added coating that achieves the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor.

A good alternative for those of us who don’t have big bucks to spend on a lens. My expectations were not very high given the fact that all teleconverters take away some light (and a little sharpness). But after getting some shots that otherwise would have been "too far away" I think this was a good purchase. With that said, if you can afford to buy a big expensive lens you will spend less time correcting sharpness in your editing software.

I've been using the Sigma 1. 4x for several years with Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro and the Sigma 100-300mm f/4.0 with excellent results. The image deteriorates a bit but worth it for the 1.4x magnifying.
With the 2x you lose autofocus with both lenses (which I knew beforehand.)
With both lenses the image deteriorates a little more than with the 1.4x. The corners are fatal with the 2x at 300mm on a Nikon D300.

However, the 2x for the 150mm to do macro is excellent. I focus manually anyway with or without extender.

You can stack the 1.4x + 2x with mixed results, but the camera does not recognize the focal length and there are too much deterioration of the image.

Conclusion: If you are looking for a Teleconverter buy a 1.4x. If you already have the 1.4x, get the 2x only if you do macro.

Note: I've read a good review of 2x with the new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8

      Attached to the sigma 70mm - 200mm 2.8f
got it up close, with the distances of your subjects in the southwest this converter is a must coupled wit a 200mm lens.

I use the teleconverter on my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and it works great. I shoot nature and wildlife with it, to get as close as possible.
The clarity and sharpness is excellent. The only thing I find difficult is attaching it to the camera. There is no white dot like my other lens have to match it up to. Maybe I will make my own dot

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I tried it inside and briefly outside. The "Spring" conditions limited my use but the converter seems to fit well. Even in cloudy conditions outside there seems to be little appreciable decline in lens speed. The AF works fairly well too without much slow-down though only singles were experimented with.
More stars should come with more use.
Coupling lens and camera body could be aided by a more distinct white dot.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I use this with a D300/Sigma 120-300 2.8 lens. Love this lens without the TC but the images lose a bit of sharpness. Focus is so painstakingly slow I that I just switch to manual focus. Use of a tripod or monopod is a must. So if you can live with the slow focus & loss of sharpness and have adequate light to shoot in, get it. Otherwise you'll have to spend thousands on a lens that will give you this range without a TC. Considering that, it's worth the price.

I have taken a motorcycle tour across the U.S. for the past 2 years and used a point and shoot for my pictures. Decided to invest in a DSLR and some good lens. I purchased the Sigma 150-500mm lens and wanted to make it more useful, hence, I purchased the above product. It is great and I have been able to take some beautiful bird shots using the "Manual" focus feature. I would recommend to anyone that wants to "reach out" and take good long range pictures.

Using the teleconverter for nature and sports photography. This small, easy to attach teleconverter is very convenient - but you must use manual focus. Also, a tri-pod is a must as it difficult to hand hold with a larger lense. It does produce sharp images in the right light. in spite of the drawbacks I'm glad to have this as an addition to my gear.

I' ve been used 2x TC with sigma 120-300 in a D300. It's great for Kite Surf, Surf and Windsurf photos. Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 becomes a 240-600mm f/5.6 in a perfect combo that I can follow with full range in f/5.6 at the beach even during cloudy days. The zoom is a little bit slower but always sharp.

It is usefull, although you really need to stabalize the the camera and use a tripod & cable realease for best results.
