The Sigma 2x EX APO Tele Converter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Note: Sigma APO Tele Converter 1.4x and 2x are dedicated teleconverter lenses. Due to the high optical quality of this teleconverter, this item will only fit and work with a select list of lenses. Please click here for a compatibility chart of all compatible lenses.

The DG denotes an added coating that achieves the best color balance while cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor.

I have to say the Tele Converter, was much better then expected.
I have paired it with my Sigma 70-200 lens for the rare times I need that little extra reach.
Its use will mostly be for shooting the rare wildlife photo, and at event shows where getting close to the subject is not possible.

The converter causes very little loss in the color or clarity of the lens.
And at F9 or so images are amazingly sharp.
I contribute the sharpness a great deal for having a steady tripod.

Unfortunately I never got to try this converter. I own 2 copies of the same lens that were supposed to be compatible but weren't. The converter fit my camera but did not fit my lenses. I am in no way bashing the product and the customer service was great in handling the return, thus the 3 stars for that effort. My only gripe was losing the S/H for the purchase and return. I think Sigma should have to make good for that since it was, obviously a bad copy, but that is an entire different issue. It has not dampened my willingness to try again and when I get one that finally fits I'll be happy to write a raving reeview.

This 2x extender works perfectly with the Sigma lens that I have. Use this combination on a Canon 7D to get that extra range that I sometimes need. Does not add that much additional weight or length so it is a perfect compliment to your equipment bag.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter:

Will get full use when Christmas comes. USED WITH SIGMA (for Canon) 150-500 Lens) However, I did test when I got it worked great easy to focus sharp pictures at all distances. Though its Manual Focus for Normal DSLR system, I did notice it would autofocus on my Canon EOS Rebel using Live Mode. The pictures came out sharp even in an indoor environment with limited light. I varied ISO and apetures to see how well t it would function in low light and found it to work well with and without flash. I did notice I would see objects in view that previously were not because of the highr magnification; got to get use to that.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter:

              Own Canon 40D.
Because of $$ considerations I bought:
              Sigma 24-70 f2.8 love it!
Sigma 100-300 f4 excellent for the price!

So, I thought I'd try the Sigma 2X teleconverter to use with the 100-300. Bad move. I knew the images would soften a bit, but WOW! Soft, soft, soft! Not really so much soft, more like totally blurry!

I've tested it by shooting static subjects like buildings, bridges and set-up test targets. I've shot wildlife (standing and in motion), sports of all kinds (including that high speed sport of sailing). All the images are very blurry and not worth the trouble to even try to salvage. I have given up trying birds in flight, period.

I have years of experience with manual focus and using teleconverters, but one is way off the chart. Lesson learned. Maybe I got a bad copy, but too late.

I will, however, continue to buy Sigma products. This one just does not work at all with my camera/lens combination.
