The Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG IF telephoto zoom lens provides a large constant f/4 maximum aperture at all focal lengths. The use of Apochromatic design and four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements give full correction of chromatic aberration and provide a high level of optical performance.
An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the petal-type lens hood supplied and circular polarizing filters. Since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length, ease of handling and operation is assured. A removable tripod mount is provided with the lens. Handholding is easy since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length.
The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations. This lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.
It is also possible to use this lens with Sigma 1.4x EX and 2x EX APO Tele Converters to convert it to an ultra tele-zoom lens.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 (D) EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Series:
this lens is sharp throughout the range in both high contrast sunlight and shade, it resolves skin texture and fine detail at 300mm at some distance away from the subject.the screw drive for the A mount is accurate, possibly a little slower than an HSM drive, but take care and there is no problem = maximum keepers for me.this is the finest 100-300 zoom that i've tried for the a900, constant f4 and constant size is a big plus, and the build is solid and tough.

Comments about Sigma Zoom Telephoto 100-300mm f/4 (D) EX DG IF Autofocus Lens for Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Series:
this lens is sharp throughout the range and returns very clean and sharp results both in high contrast sun and in shadow.
it reveals very nice skin texture and fine detail at 300mm at a distance away from the subject and for me is the best quality lens i've tried over this range for the A900 + constant f4 is nice.
it is not small but is very well built.
it uses screw drive auto focus for the A mount and so might be a tad slow for some but be careful watch focus closely and you won't lose shots - i've lost very few shots from many taken so far
