The Hoya filter is superior to all the glass filters I've used in the past. The images have a richness and tonal quality unmatched by lesser filters.

Altho I believe the filter produces some benefits as a UV filter in cutting glare, I actually found that it degraded the image by a small amount. I tested the filter in a with and without scenario and found that the with images at 400 percent magnification had LESS resolution and that the filter 'blurred' detail. I wouldn't add a filter to a lens that compromises it's performance.

This is one of the best filters - a must have for every lens.
Buying a good lens and putting a cheap and unsharp filter C R A P P Y on front of it to reduce the picture Quality... bad Idea.
This is in my opinion the best one together with the Hoya super HMC
More important for me than the UV Protection is the lens protection

That UV filter is exactly what I needed. I wanted a protection for my lens to be left on. But it should be of first quality to go with my Rebel T2i 18 mp which magnify any default. And it goes very well! At last because it's to go on a wide angular (17-70mm) it has to be slim to avoid vignating. And again it's just perfect.

I have purchased Hoya filters in the past. Pro1 Digital continues a tradition of providing a good filter at a reasonable price. I use the UV filters for protection and to eliminate haze/refelections when shooing landscapes. The Hoya fulfills my requirements for the aformentioned tasks. Low profile frame will prevent vignetting on all but the widest angle lenses.

I've gone the cheap route before, buying the inexpensive UV filter for the basic protection, and have learned the hard way, just like buying the cheap sunglasses at the drug store, the cheap filter actually degrades the image. This filter really has improved the quality of my photos, it's been astonishing for me to see the difference. While it may seem a lot to pay, especially because there are many less expensive filters out there, I've been very happy with the photos I've gotten with this filter.

I have always used a Uv filter on front of my lenses as an extra layer of protection from scratches, etc. Some that I have used in the past were of lower cost and of much lower quality. With the Hoya filters, I do not feel as though I am sacrificing any clarity or contrast in my images by having it there. After testing it out with this one ... I bought one for all of my lenses.
