This lid organizer is a "must have" for the odds and ends not normally stored in the divider sections of the Pelican box. Installation is a bit tedious. Placing the open box so the lid is flat on the floor and giving the screws a head start by slightly enlarging the pre-drilled holes are good tips for the installer. The foam lid insert which comes with the Pelican box cannot be used in combination with the organizer unless the organizer is left empty or nearly empty. A sheet of bubble wrap or thin foam slightly smaller than the lid can be laid over the items in the box dividers for extra protection when the lid foam cannot be used because the organizer is too full.

Like other reviewers have already indicated, this thing is a bit fiddly to install. The lid of the 1510 case doesn't have pilot holes for the screws--just tiny dimples. A few minutes with a drill in the garag took care of that. Just be sure not to drill too deep or with a bit that's too big. Also, it's tricky to get the screws lined up in the new holes, working the screwdriver around the mesh. I really think that this is an area where Pelican fell short.
I'd like to have some clear vinyl pouches, as opposed to mesh. That would keep things like pens or tips of cords or cable-ties from poking through.
Some elastic loops, and maybe some strips of velco between the pockets would be a welcome addition for holding pens & cables etc.
It seems to do the job though. All my stuff is organized and secure without jumbling all around the kit.

This lid organizer is a must for the Pelican 1510 case. I am able to store extra batteries, flashlight, gray card, filters, etc. The organizer doesn't take any extra room, and extends the usefulness of the case exponetially. I love it! My only complaint is that there are supposed to be pre-drilled holes in the lid of the case in which to install the organizer, and there weren't. I had to punch little holes at the proper locations to get the screws that came with the organizer installed. This is not the fault of the organizer however, but the case itself.

When reading some of the reviews on the site I was worried about the purchase. The negative reviews are a little blow out of proportion. It went on in 5 minutes and I have it STUFFED to the max. There is no problem with the quality of the costruction. Although I have not seen any problem with this a suggestion to pelican would be to include a very thin peice of foam with the bag to put between the lid organizer and my gear. But again its just a suggestion, from what I have seen so far there is no contact between the lid and my tallest of camera bodies (d7000 with the vertical grip attached).

I bought this alongside the 1510 case in order to store batteries, cables and various other small items. It works great for that purpose, but be aware it is almost comically difficult to install. My large hands could be partly to blame but there are other issues such as the fact that the 1510 case does not have any pre-drilled holes ready to accept the screws to mount this lid organizer. Also the bottom three holes are actually inside the mesh pockets, making it tricky to get those screws tightened without destroying the pockets themselves. Again, great accessory, but could stand to be easier to attach.

This is a solid piece that adds extra storage for things like filters, batteries, tools, and lens cleaning items. It is awkward to install, as other reviewers have stated. I would recommend using a drill to start small pilot holes for the tiny screws supplied with the lid organizer. I think that replacing the protective foam insert with this organizer does mean that you are sacrificing a little in terms of padding, but after some serious use, I don't see any harm from that. For photographers who are subjecting their kit to lots of abuse, they might want to get some thinner foam to lay in between the organizer and the rest of the case.

Sloppy construction...fair design. Difficult to mount on lid of 1510 case as screw holes didn't really line up with mounting holes in the case. I don't think that this item is worth the money. I'm going to see if it is practical to use...I'm not in love with this item, and might eventually remove it from the case and try to find some other use for it. I own many Pelican items. This is the first one that has disappointed me. I wouldn't recommend it.

The lid organizer is a great idea to contain all the bits and pieces that normally get tossed into corners and then fly around in the case. Installed it with some 2" wide industrial strength velco rather than the small screws provided.

Fine but not up to Pelican expectations It should have been designed to hinge and have storage behind, or come with a foam layer between the organizer and the case lid. It does work and fit so only regret is what might have been.But i have to say those screws [...] should be a large pan head and the holes should be pre drilled. What a pain to install. I ended up using velcro instead.

This is probably the most handy accessory to put in a Pelican case. All those small cables, batteries, and other little accessories can really get cluttered otherwise. This keeps things neat and organized.
The only reason I gave this a 4 star rating was because it was an absolute pain to install. It would be nice if they sold cases with these already in them. Other than that I have no complaints!

I bought this organizer to complement the already excellent Pelican 1510 case. I'd read the reviews warning of the difficulties attaching it, but figured I could handle the challenge. Indeed the reviews were correct and it's nearly impossible to screw in all of the six screws included. Three of the screw holes are in locations that are literally impossible to reach by screwdriver - make no mention of the fact that you'd be unable to hold the screw or align it with the designated 'pre-drilled' hole.
Aside from the above issue, my bigger problem with this organizer is that it essentially replaces the foam in the lid that protects your camera gear from moving around in transit. Attaching this organizer takes away a critical component to the Pelican Case - the padding. To be clear, I should have deduced this on my own and I'm not blaming the product or it's quality. I just incorrectly assumed it was somehow going to 'complete' the functionality of the case and give me the ability to properly stow items like batteries, manuals, wires and CF cards. Unfortunately I overlooked the fact that doing this would REMOVE the foam padding in the lid and my lenses and camera bodies would now be susceptible to much more movement instead of being pressed down firmly into their compartments. This item is exactly what it is, but I caution people to consider what you're losing by attaching it to the lid.

If I had a chance to look at this in the store I would have not purchased it. Yes it looks good and may function okay, but it is cheaply made in in my op.
Not very functional if you have gear stored to the top of the case,... something could easily get busted or smashed using the "Lid Organizer".
