Kenko 25mm Uniplus Tube DG Autofocus Extension Tube for Canon EOS EF
The Kenko 25mm Uniplus Tube DG (extension ring) is an accessory exclusively designed for use with standard AF lenses to shoot subjects at closer distance with higher magnification. Magnification ratio for the Uniplus Tube 25 is about 1/2 when used with a 50mm standard lens.
Provides perfect coupling with automatic aperture, TTL metering and AE mechanism. AF support is dependent on your lens' maximum aperture. As a rule, the lens has to be set to f/5.6 or brighter in order for the camera's AF system to work.
This DG Extension tube has upgraded "Gate-Array IC" circuitry to work better with digital SLR's and some of the digital SLR lenses.

Purchased to minimize weight while hiking and gain extra magnification for occasional macro shots. Primarily purchased to use with 70-200L & 300L prime. Works great, but takes effort to get good results. When everything comes together, the results are very, very good! Tried to fit my 17-85 EF-S lens, but would not work. So, EF lenses only on this one. Fits nice and snug.

If you don't live or die with macro photography and you cannot justify buying a dedicated macro lens, this is a nice affordable solution. I use it on my 50mm and 85mm primes to acheive varying degrees of magnification. If you're into photographing bugs, frogs, or anything else that could be spooked by your presence, this is not your best option as the working distance is very close. I use this tube to get a handful of macro shots at weddings (rings, flowers, details, etc). if I used it more, I might be concerned with its duarbility over the long-term.

Works well with my 70-200 but won't couple with my EF S 60mm Macro. ID is not large enough to let the end of the lens to enter all the way.

Allows close focusing, especially with 50mm lens.
When I purchased this, I assumed that only infinity focus is lost, however when attached, the focus area becomes extremely narrow. In a nutshel, it's great for product photography (etc) in a controlled environment, but not practical for wildlife close ups.
It feels very plastic and when I attach a large lens such as a 70-200, there's a bit of movement between the lens and the extension tube.
All in all, a cheap, effective way to get close ups, but if nature is your goal, save up for a dedicated lens.

You can (must!) get really close with this. It's going to take some time to get my approach all dialed in, but it is certainly a great option for a cheap Macro!

I just purchased quite a load of equipment all at once. I had spent my current budget, but still wanted the ability to occasionally shoot small objects close-up. So, I tried this extension ring. I found it to be a low-cost, but fully functional option. It is plastic. It does not look to be of the build quality that I am used to seeing with genuine Canon products, but I see no reason to be unhappy with it. It functions perfectly for my purposes with all my Canon lenses. I consider it a "good buy".

I purchased this tube as a poor-man's macro lens. close up photography isn't really my thing, but I was feeling a bit limited by the focusing range of my 50 f/1.8 and 85 f/1.8 lenses and wanted to explore some of the creative options available in macro photography.
AF works well; provided your close enough to your subject (no infinity focus). The air inside this tube seems as sharp, if not sharper, than the air in the higher-priced Canon version. :)

Used with Canon L-series lens for super close face portraits. Very happy with it. Less expensive than the Canon brand but works just fine. Usually I hand meter, but I tried the TTL. Seems to under-expose by about 1/3 but thats not hard to work around.
