The length is a definite plus. I use it with my Rode Blimp. The plugs at each end have slots that allow for a XLR cable to run thru the pole. It also has nice velcro straps should you choose not to run the cable. This pole has a soft handle which is good for long shoots.
I tried making a homemade boom pole like yo see on the net and the end broke off, crashing my blimp on the floor. Not good. The blimp held up though without a scratch, lol. That's when I quit toying and bought this boom. Pro shotgun mics etc. are too costly to go cheap on what holds them.

It took a few minutes to figure out how to get the XLR cable inside but once I did I appreciated its design. Although when you pull the cable out through the bottom when retracting the extensions the rubber cap on the base pops out. I managed not to loose it on the first shoot I used it on but I'm sure it will get lost soon enough. Maybe I'll lube the cable slightly? The handgrip is the right diameter and feels nice and cushy, it gives good support when fully extended. I feel the tightening mechanism for the extension pieces is a bit clumsy though. Kind of tricky to loosen and tighten when extending and retracting in a hurry on location though. I've only used it on one shoot so far so maybe I'll get the hang of it? Some slight low end rumble transferred to the mic in handling without a low end roll off engaged and a slight bit of cable noise with the cable routed inside. Overall it feels pretty solid though and I find it to be an ok value for the money. I do not have a point of comparison as this is the first handheld boom I have used as my background is mostly studio recording.

Exceeded expectations, feels so strong you could use it as a weapon. I would give 5 stars except for how you have to lace the XLR cable through. It's so tight my XLR cables barely wouldn't fit through so my only option is to wrap the cable around the pole. Not that big of a deal for me because I prefer this method but they really failed at giving it the ability of running it through. But it's a great boom pole and doesn't arc or lag at all even at 10 feet out!

- It's a great product, sturdy enough and very well made.
- It's not as light as a carbon fiber one, but it has other features that makes me like it even more like the ability to feed the cable through the pole.
- The twist-locks are solid and seems durable.
- The foam on the handle helps to hold the pole and it's long enough for both arms.
- There's a rubber stopper to put on the 3/8 that is welcome when using a shockmount with an adapter (5/8 to 3/8) because the rubber helps to tight in place when screwing the shockmount to the pole.
- The retracted length is great when you have to carry or record in tight places.

I will use this boom pole as a very large monopod. I'll shoot with a 15mm lens on my Canon 5D Mark 2 for some very high shots. Nice and light so it works well with a Sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic too. Use with the Pearstone Universal shock mount, because it works with both this boom pole and a hot shoe mount on a camera. Oh, and don't forget the Rode case.

I'm surprised by the number of positive reviews this boompole has received.
Over the last few years I've worked with several identical models on various features, shorts and documentaries.
I don't believe I've come across one that was entirely functional. Each commonly had a section that would not lock (often more than one), and on a number of them the mount itself was loose.
It's not uncommon to see boom swingers gaffer taping these poles to prevent them from ruining the sound on films.
Very poor product.

A really good boompole for the price. The parts are a little hard to tighten sometimes, but it is light enough, even with the Rode NTG-2 attached to it. Recommended.

I use this on short film sets and for recording miscellaneous field audio.
This pole is awesome. Exacting craftsmanship ensures everything fits together perfectly with no room to spare, which is great since the last thing you want with a boom pole is for things to rattle around. Lightweight and sturdy, too. The price is right too, a lot less than most.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Just got it a few days ago, its much larger than I expected, maybe a bit too long for my uses, but it is very strong. It was hard to thread the xlr cable through the first time. The cap at the end isn't very useful. overall solid product.

I used the Rode boompole many times in school projects, and liked it enough to buy one for myself. The velcro straps that come with it are far from the best and the screw rings that tighten the sections can be a little odd to work with, but over all it's a good buy.

Wow... this pole feels more like 12 feet than 10. I like the soft grip and the solid feel of the pole.
It took me a few tries to get the hang of the release rings, but they work really well once you figure them out. Pull forward and twist to loosen, pull back and twist to tighten.
Excellent value, though I wish it came with an adaptor to make the 3/8 stud fit 5/8 shock mounts.

I use this boompole with a Rode NTG-2 microphone. It is 10 feet long and lightweight. You can feed the microphone cable through the center of the pole and have it come out the bottom.

Surprisingly well-crafted and solid, does not at all feel cheap in your hands while at the same time being light and well-balanced. Had no issue holding it steady for extended periods, and it feels like I'll still be using it a few years from now.

The pole is well balanced when fully extended, so whomever is running the boom need not be a "weight lifter." Rode has balanced price, rugged design, and ease of portability. Pair it with a screen or Rode Blimp and you're in business !

I was in the market for a boompole when I read a review about this on VideoMaker. I have used it once and it is definitely a great piece of equipment. Definitely worth it especially in using in conjuction with the Rode Pistol Grip.

Great length, I was able to reach top of staircase and track cast to bottom. Heavier than I'm used to, but much steadier when outside in windy conditions.

I used the Rode 10' Boompole with the Rode NTG-2 mic. The pole is easy to use, comfortable, good balance, the pole is not clumsy or weighty so the meekest person can maneuver the pole with ease.

This is a great mic boom, and it's perfect for my Rode NTG-1. I was really impressed with the craftsmanship of the boom out of the box. Very good quality. Some of the tighteners don't clamp the pole perfectly, but they hold the pole at your desired length more than adequately. It's not a super-light pole, but it's so well made that you won't care about a little extra weight. This is a great boom.

For the price this thing is the best you can get. Mine came with a foam grip around the entire length of the base pole, which I did not expect.
You can run an XLR through the pole. Just make sure your cable is thin enough to fit through. I had to sand down the plastic notches of the XLR cable to get mine to fit through.
