The Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit consists of two black folding upright stands that can rise to a height of 8' 10", a crossbar that can expand to a width of 9' 5", and a travel case with handle.
It is ideal for the photographer on the go. The stand (w/o paper) is lightweight (12 lb / 5.4 kg), and compact, collapsing to less than 44 inches.
The Port-A-Stand is designed to safely support 9' rolls of seamless paper, as well as cloth backgrounds as heavy as muslin. For 10' wide cloth backgrounds, either fold the edges under, or gather and drape the material to fit the width of the crossbar.
For extra safety, weights or sandbags are available as accessories to secure the setup around active children.
And don't forget a clamp or two, to secure your optional seamless paper, or to drape your cloth background more creatively.

This is a second set I now have. I primarily use them for light stands. It does also work well as a paper stand. Do be careful when using wide paper at full height. Stand can be tippy. Sand bags will help.
All screw fittings are plastic so do not over tighten. Easier to set up than the Savage Pole Vault style, which I also use. Legs lock in place, unlike Pole Vault model.
Portability and sturdiness were my primary considerations for buying these. My first set is about 10 years old. I do not over tax my equipment, so it has lasted well.
If available I would have purchased set without paper, but it was useful soon after I purchased it.
Travel bag has improved over earlier versions.

I purchased this background stand for my photography studio and while it does the job, I'm not satisfied with it. This is not the best quality stand by far. It's poorly constructed and doesn't hold paper in place. Even though most of us are on a budget, I would suggest investing in a better quality background stand.

I use this stand for my three, 54" colored seemless paper. It is portable and easy to move so when I want to use my backdrops that are behind it, I can just move it quickly and easily.

I bought this for my home studio about 3 months ago. It does a great job and seems sturdy. I have also on two occasions packed it up in the included back and taken it to location shoots and have had no issues with that either.

Comments about Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit:
I bought this product at last minute. I was looking for something cheap that would do its job for a shoot. I used a cloth backdrop and it held up nicely. Although I am a bit concerned with the cross-bar. It's a little flimsy, not very sturdy. I haven't tried it with the free white paper backdrop that came with it, but I'm concerned that it won't hold up that well. If I bought one of these again, I would spend a little more money and get something a little stronger. Afterall I imagine I'm going to use it a lot in the future.

Easy to set up and configure for use in our home studio. Only downside we have seen thus far is there is no way to lock the crossbar to a given width (a problem for us because taking pictures of squirmy kids usually results in something getting bumped, etc.

Comments about Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit:
Very happy with this purchase. Easy to set up, easy to take down, easy to carry with included case. Two saddle bags are suggested to use and insure that the setup stays upright (the stands are very sturdy but will fall over if bumped hard enough by a child or a pet). There is no way of locking the cross bar to the stands, but a heavy backdrop will keep it in place. This stand should be large enough for any indoor session. I used it for a family of 4 with two large dogs and had plenty of coverage in the background.
Only downside is the cross bar is telescopic and will sag at the full 10' extension. It is not very noticeable but may put a little bit of a ripple in the fabric. Should be a easy upgrade down the line should it become too annoying.

Easy to set up, easy to use. Paper is cheap enough that you can buy any color background and toss it once the paper is used up. Stands pack up nicely in the bag provided so it is easy to transport wherever you are going.

This stand is exactly what we needed and it surprised us how sturdy it was built. It is really good for tight spaces since it is adjustable. Overall a really good starter background stand.

I use this as a backdrop stand for shooting "Photo Booth" style set-ups at weddings. It is sturdy and reliable. I only use lightweight cloth, so I can't testify to its strength. For my purposes, it works wonderfully and is so affordable! Love it! Comes with a great case for easy travel. I am a small woman, so it is a little heavy for me, but my husband has no issues whatsoever with its weight.

Comments about Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit:
This is a great product if you're starting out in video or photography and you need something to hang backdrops, green screen, white and black background, etc. The upright stands are sturdy and the crossbar accommodates multiple sizes or backdrops. The only thing that I don't like about this package is the roll of white paper is too small. It's only 4ft in width so it limits you on how far back you are with your camera.
Everything breaks down very easily and fits in the carry-all bag that comes along with. All in all, great deal.

Comments about Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit:
We used this for pop up demo spaces, which required a pure white background. Set up was easy, ten minutes total. Breakdown even faster. Very stable. Well constructed. Carrying bag is ok (3 stars), but would be excellent (5 stars) if better padding was provided. Also, would be nice to have a carrier bag which could accommodate up to a six foot paper roll, or at the very least a space on the side of provided bag which accommodates the included 53" roll.
All in all exactly what we needed, for a fair price. We will get a lot of use out of these.

Comments about Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit:
I test shoot a lot of new models in my NYC apartment. With this product my apartment can be both a living space and a studio space. With this stand I can easily hang a 9 foot seamless by myself (I'm a small girl) and take it down without any stress. It's sturdy and I know I am going to get so much use out of it. It's also great how compact it is when it's not in use. I can hide it away in it's travel bag in a corner of my apartment until it's ready to be set up again. The small white seamless was a nice added bonus, nice for shooting still lives or simple portraits.

Great little setup. I use this to shoot in a small studio space. Expands to hold 53" and 104" background paper up to about 9 feet high and collapses to fit into a small carrying case. Great for shooting and storage in small spaces.
