The Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter is designed to let you use most existing shoe-mount flashes with virtually any compact digital and film camera that has a built-in flash, even those with no flash shoe.
The adapter has its own bracket and ergonomically contoured grip with built-in slave trigger. The slave sensor has 5 LED-indicated, button-selected mode settings, enabling it to synchronize with cameras using a wide variety of pre-flash and multiflash redeye-reduction systems.
Ordinary slave units do not synchronize properly with digital cameras, because digital cameras use very rapid series of pre-flashes which prematurely trigger a conventional slave.
There are many of these products upon the market, but the Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter has been tested at B&H and can be characterized as a relative value. It is inexpensive and usually works (will not sync with Sony SLR cameras' popup flashes), though the range of the slave is quite short. Accepting any flash you have handy is certainly a strong suit. Looking at it another way, a generic L-bracket doesn't cost much less, and this offers an added advantage that could prove to make an average image stellar.

The transition from old film-based SLR gear to digital photography is now complete. (Read: slow adopter). I still had some reasonably expensive equipment that I thought had been rendered obsolete until I found this flash adapter. Dragging out my expensive flash that used to be the bomb diggety, with my long lens and adapter, I can shoot with confidence and be sure there is light on the subject. The slave works flawlessly and adds a great handhold, and makes my digital camera look more pro. Great product!

The sensor on this slave has a very limited angle of view aswell as unpredictable sensitivity. If the subject is closeor highly reflective, you must use setting 2 so the preflashdoesn't trigger it. If the subject is more than 20 feetaway, the preflash isn't powerful enough to trigger it, andyou must switch to setting 1. It's all trial and error. These instructions apply only when the unit is pointedstraight at the subject. If you try to point it at theceiling for fill, or position it remotely for side or backlighting, the behavior becomes sounpredictable that it is useless. Best I can say: It'scheap and works acceptably well in a straight ahead mode.

Comments about Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter:
Like most, I was having problems with the small flash on my digital camera filling group shots. This product allow me to take the Vivitar off my SLR and use it. Had to take several test shots to get the settings just right. The best result came with putting a piece of undeveloped film over the camera flash, thus just using the slaved flash.
The unit is a bit flimsey, made out of plastic, we will see how it holds up.

I bought this for my Samsung HZ30W, didn't work at first. The sensor could'nt pick up the flash, because it sat below the sensor. Cut a square inch piece of photo paper, placed it under the flash lock over the sensor and now it works.I'm very please with this product.Cons mode button in the wong place.

I found it works at long distances to make up for short falls of built in flash. At Shorter distances, bounce flash was more effective. Over all it does work.

Comments about Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter:
I have two of these units and I use them in an "el cheapo" home studio setup. They are mounted on tripods with external flash units I bought for next to nothing on the internet. I have a softbox on one and an umbrella on the other. Both units are triggered with the built in camera flash and it works reliably every time. If I don't do any studio work I sometimes take one unit with me when the built in camera flash is not enough. Sure it is a bit bulky and flimsy but for the price I have no complaints.

Comments about Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter:
I've only had the Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter for a week, so I'm still learning its ways, but I like it pretty well so far. It flexes a little with a digital SLR's weight (Olympus E-500), but basically seems sturdy enough. Certainly more than strong enough for most smaller cameras. My only real problem is that the button for selecting the delay setting falls right under your thumb when you're holding the grip, so it's very easy to accidentally change the setting. Once you know what works with your camera, you probably will rarely change this, so it would have made more sense to put this button in a more out of the way location.
