I purchased this as a replacement batery for the original one I reciceved with the camera. It seems to work in a very similar manner as the original. The longevity is not great, but when fully charged they operate the camera well.

This was the first time I tried a battery other than the original PENTAX brand. It seems to work even better than the oem battery, providing a little more current for the zoom motor, etc. Also stays charged a little longer.
I can't think of a down side, though I can't say yet how long it will last in the long haul, having only had it for 30 days.
