I bought my 5D almost exactly one year ago. Since that time I have shot at least 50,000 images with it. It has stood up to loads of abuse, every weather condition I can think of (including SE Asia rainy season), drops, bumps, bangs, everything. It is an awesome camera that continues to deliver jaw dropping image quality at every ISO up to 1600.
I particularly love the look of 1600 B&W images from this camera, very film like.
I took this camera on a 6 month trip across the world. From the streets and country sides of 7 different European countries, to the jungles of Vietnam and Cambodia, even to the Moroccan Sahara desert, the 5D never wavered. It performed, and continues to perform, flawlessly.
I have printed stunning 20x30 inch prints from the files it produces and I am confident that it can easily go bigger. I saw a print from a Canon inkjet printer at PhotoPlus last year from a 5D, 40x60 inches-could have sworn it was from a camera with twice the resolution.
I will never sell this camera, I have developed a love for it that is very reminiscent of the love I have for my M6.
The only downsides are the dust that inevitably creeps onto the sensor and the less-than-awe-inspiring performance of the outer focus points in low light situations. Other than that, I have almost no gripes about this camera, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I only hope its successor can live up to its heritage...

I've owned this camera for 2 years, but 5 monuths of that time it has been out being fixed, and in the end it has never "truly" been fixed. The first problem I had was at shutter speeds over 1/2000th (not with a flash or strobe). I would get a black fog in one side of the image with a highlight streak on the other. I sent it out to canon on the manufacturer warranty, and they took almost 2 months to send it back and yet it still had the same problem, but I decided to learn to live with it. The next problem was when, occasionally at random, I would press the shutter button and it wouldn't trip and the camera would freezes up. I would then have to turn it on and off to get it to work, which was unacceptable. So this time I sent it to mack on the extended warranty, and they took 3 1/2 months to get back, and again, I still have the same problem and, to boot, now it reads ERR99 sometimes. I got about 1 1/2 years of use out of this camera, but I shoot weddings and I just can't count on this camera to work when I need it to.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I upgraded from the Canon 20d. I find the 5d insanely adaptive, a very big difference in clarity and noticeably better images by far. Its much quieter than the 20d, which is very obtrusive when I do headshots or weddings. I'm extremely happy with this camera.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I got this camera from B&H some weeks ago to replace my EOS 350D. I always wanted a full frame digital camera and this one surely worths the price. Image quality is awesome and noise is maybe the lowest I've ever seen in any digital camera. Low light performance is great.
Just do yourself a favour: use GOOD lenses on it. If you put one of those cheap lenses image will be worse than from a smaller sensor camera. I used the basic 50mm 1.8 EF-II in my 350D and images were very acceptable, but this lens isn't really great on the 5D set wider than f4.5
Camera controls are very nice and intuitive. For me the only con is the fact that the camera body and a good lens will be always somewhat heavy.
Oh, and you shoot lots of RAW pictures, give a try to DCRAW program. Far better than any other RAW processing program or plugin.

I use this for weddings and portraits. Overall it is a very good camera. Easy to use. Light. Everything in the right place. It really suffers in the highlights however and this is a real problem with weddings or working outdoors. This problem is addressed in the Mark II I understand.

I use this camera for everything: portraits, sports and weddings. My daughter is learning on a 20D and she can pick up the 5 D and feel very comfortable. I dont feel that the camera is bulky or heavy. The grip fits very nicely. Better than the 20 D.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
Bought it when it first came out and it has served me well. At the time it was the best price in full frame and still is. Has a learning curve with the directions that the dials scroll to get the settings one needs which is not intuitive. But I started in analog so I am old school about learning this new digital gear. Shots made are superb. It struggles though in low light for a good noise free exposure. It can be pushed with software to get the exposures to come out o.k. and would need a noise software to make the photos look normal. But it is still great for the price. Even though technology progresses I'd say that the plain 5D will stick around in the camera world for a while more as the full frame intro camera for canon. Would love to try the MKII but this one will still do a great job for 98% of the still shots you will ever need. Would give it five stars except for the controls issue for me.

I have used this camera twice for portrait work and have been impressed. I switched from a Nikon to Canon after hearing rave reviews about the lenses. I am having a hard time getting used to the control placements of the Canon not as intuitive feeling as the Nikons, but I am sure it will become easier with time.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
I just got this camera 2 weeks ago and have noticed many things about it. First, the build. It feels like a camera. I can grip and squeeze the hell out of the thing and it doesn't creak or anything. It is very well built. Also, the shutter response and sound is very nice. Much different than the Rebel series, in a good way. Also, I have noticed that I can control settings very quickly. ISO is so fast; a push of a button and a turn of the wheel gets me from 50 to 3200 in a second! White balance, drive mode, metering, and a bunch of other settings are the same way. Now, about the most important thing- the sensor. Boy, does this sensor shine. ISO 50-640 are wonderful. Absolutely no significant noise. A little color noise that can be removed in Adobe Lightroom begins to show at around 800. 1600 is extremely usable as well. 3200 is not bad with noise and if I find noise objectionable in rare cases, I just convert to grayscale and enjoy film-like results. Lenses really shine on this camera. I have only used a Canon 50mm f/1.4 on this camera and it is great. Fantastic resolution for landscapes and great shallow depth of field capabilities at f/1.4. This camera does show vignetting wide open with this lens, which is to be expected. I personally find this to be an asset, not a negativity. This is up to the viewer, I suppose. The only thing I would say negative about the 5D is that the LCD seems a little bit off with color. I have noticed it being slightly greenish, almost. This has sometimes affected what I think the picture looks like on the screen and what it looks like on a montior. Other than that, though, nice size. Much better than the 1.8" of the 20D and XT.Overall my 2 weeks with the 5D have been awesome. Love it so much, it was worth the fraction of the original price that it cost to me [...]. I highly recommend it for portraits, journalism, and high-use situations.

Coming from a 5 year old 10D this camera is a huge upgrade. I chose this (as opposed to waiting for the new 5DII) because it is tried and true. It has been (and still is) a solid camera that produces excellent photos.
I gave it 4 stars since it is 3 years old technology and the new 5DII has a lot more features that would be nice to have for a few more $.

I went from my Rebel XTI to the 5D and haven't been able to find my socks since - this camera blew 'em right off my feet.
Seriously, I love how easy this camera is to use - everything seems to be logical to me (a big plus) and the images SOOC are amazing! Great color, clarity. Love it.
The only cons, if they are even cons are the relatively low ISO option (1600), and the LCD screen is quite small.
Overall, I think this camera is amazing and I want to marry it.

Even though i had to return my 5D to Canon within three weeks (my poor heart!) because of a defect, my time with it has been remarkable. I used the 30D for two years before adding the 5D to my arsenal, and i'm so glad i did. The quality of the photos is hands down, better than any i've ever had, regardless of my technical skill. Rugged, easy to use, and a prized possession - once i get it back from Canon! :)

I've had this for about 2 years and have loved every minute. I shoot Family, Landscape, and other art and it has exceeded my expectations every time. Easy to walk around with all day with the grip removed, or leave it on if you are staying on one spot. Best used with a good flash or filters to fully harness of the superior image quality. I use it for everything and haven't found any notable shortcomings.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
The 5D is a great camera in so many ways. The color is always amazing, the full frame has been great and I love how such an insignificant amount of noise appears in my images in low light, it's fast, durable, capable, and every time I use it, I am reminded why I love photography.
However, it does have a few kinks that I wish Canon would work out. My viewfinder is always loaded with spots and it seems to constantly pick up more, even in ideal conditions. My sensor needs cleaning quite a bit and I wish there was a self cleaning sensor. Also, the battery compartment is very flimsy and the construction could be stronger. This isn't as important to me, but the LCD screen is very innacurate as well.
All in all, the camera produces stunning, solid images that are clear, crisp, noiseless, and full of clarity.
However, I do think the camera could still use a bit of an upgrade.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera (Camera Body):
This is my second DSLR after my 350D. The transition was easy, and the controls are easy to figure out. The full frame sensor works great for having a narrower depth of field (compared to crop sensors). The large view finder is great, but the placement of the shooting information can be difficult to see when holding the camera in portrait format (the 40D is much better here). The 40D also displays the ISO in the view finder. The camera is very well balanced with both the 24-105L, and 70-200 f/4 IS L. Canons latest version of DPP can also compensate for lens distortion during your post processing. The battery lasts much longer as it's bigger than what the Rebel series use. The camera is quite comfortable to hold for not only my hands (normal mans size), but also my girlfriend (almost big kids size hands).
