The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 DG zoom lens offers a wide f/2.8 aperture at 28mm, and is very lightweight (just 8.6 oz) and compact (only 2.4 inches long). The size and weight of this standard lens makes it very suitable for landscape photography, and snapshots.
DG is a designation Sigma uses on lenses featuring optical systems designed to meet the performance characteristics of digital SLR cameras.
Note! AF not supported by D40 and D60 cameras.

This is a great "go out and bang it around lens" that still has good quality and clarity.

Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 Compact High Speed Zoom AF Lens for Nikon:
This lens is a little gem that most people don't know about. It costs less than half of what the version with the constant 2.8 aperture does but you REALLY get your money's worth.
Sharp, good contrast light and compact. A great choice for a 'normal' lens on a DX format digital slr

Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 Compact High Speed Zoom AF Lens for Nikon:
We primarily use it to take catalogue shots of race used memorabilia and found it to be a very nice lens with a very useful range especially for the price. Very good color rendition, good contrast, and reasonable sharpness make this lens a very useful addition to your camera bag. To help avoid rim damage, we keep a rubber lens hood fitted at all times.

On the 20d I kept getting an error 99 message..which means this lens has compatability issues with canon slr's it has to do with the contacts on the lens and my camera..got this info straight from canon....aside from that the lens is not really sharp....I didnt expect it to mach up with my 70-200 L lens...but I had hoped to get what i was getting from my 18-55mm 3.5-5.6...and its just not good...now on the d80 the images are ok....

Comments about Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 Compact High Speed Zoom AF Lens for Nikon:
Ive owned this since I first got my D50 and it has been a very nice lens. Fast compared to the standard kit lens, and (for me) a more useful range. Fantastic color rendition, good contrast, and excellent sharpness around /5.6 make this lens a fantastic addition to your collection. Proper and fast focus ring, comfortable zoom ring, AF is inherently loud(uses the motor inside your camera) but fast enough-- accurate too!
Problems Encountered: Aperture ring is useless on Digital- Everything is controlled on the camera.
