For simple desktop recordings, this boom works very well. It's compact, weighted at the bottom well, and adjustable. The only thing that will affect its usage is the funky angle at which the microphone itself sits. otherwise, this boom is pretty nice.

The heavy duty base keeps the stand stable on your desk. I purchased this stand for pod casting and general voice over at my computer desk. The stand is very well made, my only complaint is that the top arm is a bit long for my application.

For the price, this is a great, basic desk mic stand. We bought a couple to set up a little podcasting operation, and they do the job well. The base is heavy enough that it doesn't tip over, although I switched it around so the long arm is on the bottom and the short arm swivels (helps give it a little more height too).
