The Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen with Canon's exclusive Super Precision Matte technology makes it easy for professional photographers to determine the precise point of sharpest focus during manual focusing. This is because the microlens on the screen's matte is optimally shaped to increase defocusing near the point of focus.
Optimized for use with lenses whose maximum aperture is f/1.8 to f/2.8.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
As a professional wedding photographer I have come to expect the highest in performance from my Canon pro gear. This focusing screen is yet another example of a world class product from Canon. The light transmission is excellent, enabling an instantaneous and precise focusing solution when used in very low levels of light. I am very impressed with this focusing screen.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
I shoot with manually focusing zeiss for Canon lenses, with the stock screen 30% of images were OOF, with the ECS screen 100% are tack sharp, you will miss shots without this screen, it is that simple.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
This focusing screen has worked perfectly on my EOS 3. I shoot at very wide apertures on this camera almost all the time and this screen has been an incredible help in finally being able to focus exactly where I want. It was super easy to install too.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
I use this on my 1D3 with my Contax Zeiss primes for full time manual focusing. The screen takes about 1 minute to install so its great. However, if you have lenses slower than 2.8, you will get noticeable viewfinder darkness. I use my lenses wide open so its been great. Liveview is admittely sharper but lugging around a tripod is silly.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
I use fast lenses for all my pictures.
I love the boken effect and with this new focusing lens you can accurately definte that space through the view finder.
Installation is cake although the idea of replacing a piece of the camera so close to the sensor and mirror was scary.

Comments about Canon Ec-S Focusing Screen:
The Ec-S focus screen does indeed show depth of field more accurately, especially when used with fast lenses. However, it costs viewfinder brightness, and not just a little. By f/2.8 the viewfinder appeared a stop darker than when using an Ec-C IV screen, past that it only got worse.
In low light I found that any gains from being able to see the depth of field better were countered almost completely by the viewfinder being so dark that it was hard to see anything.
