The Photogenic Four Piece Umbrella and Stand Kit is based on the 45" Eclipse umbrellas. Each has a removable black backing and an extra white satin panel added during construction. The result is the elimination of the reflection of the metal frame of the umbrella in the eyes of your subject, or on highly reflective surfaces, such as chrome or brass.
The Talon line of light stands from Photogenic are a combination of design quality and practicality, achieving superior stability and longer service life even under constant, rigorous use. This kit has two of these aluminum stands. Air cushioning gently lowers the light, preventing damage to light fixtures and fingers when section locks have not been properly tightened.
The UM-4 is a lightweight but sturdy polycarbonate light and umbrella mount. It swivels and tilts, and includes 5/8" and 1/4"-20 screw mounts.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
Great on the go kit. I keep it in my car for shoots where professional grade lighting is not practical. I give it 5 stars as a travel kit but 3 stars as a studio kit (great for novice photographers).

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
This is a good and solid beginner kit, with few minor issues. I've to say I really like the build quality of the stands and umbrella. My few minor issues are with the design of the umbrella brackets. The brackets are made from plastic and as such you have to be careful when tightening any of the screws. Especially umbrella. Otherwise you will risk stripping the threads on it.
Otherwise I'm very happy with the purchase and it looks like it will last a long time, as long as I take care with the brackets.

was surprised the quality was very good, the case is great comes with straps and clear vinyl to hold the umbrellas, but it is 15 inches longer than the longest piece in the kit

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
Overall I am very please with this product. The build quality seems to be very good. The product is very compact, but the carrying case sees somewhat oversized. I do wish the screw didn't simply run up against the umbrella handle, as it destroys the finish on the handle.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
I use this with strobes for in-studio shooting. Quality is excellent for the price. As others have noted, does NOT come with cold shoe mounts -- buy them if you need them. Nothing to add that other reviewers haven't emphasized. Versatile (shoot through or bounce), ribs don't show, stands are stable and easy to adjust and better quality than I expected. Bag is huge -- plan on stuffing it with other useful things if you are porting these to a shoot.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
I bought this kit to start as a budding strobist and do some portrait work. I was very pleased with the kit upon arrival. The packing was great and everything was in perfect condition. The stands seem to be of very good quality with smooth action and dampened motion. The umbrellas are very nice with the covered ribs and the black cover goes off and back on easily. The adapters are plastic but seem like they will last a long time provided they are not abused. The bag is especially nice with room and tiedowns for additional stands and umbrellas. It also has the added touch of color stitching for the company name. The bundled price is very good compared to putting the pieces together.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
I am a photo enthusiast trying to break into the professional realm and was looking for a lighting stand kit that was inexpensive. I was a bit apprehensive because it is usually true that 'you get what you pay for," but in this instance I've got to say that I believe you get quite a bit more than you pay for with this kit.
The stands and tall, lightweight and stable, though I will use a sandbag, or anchor, on the base when I use them out of doors.
the umbrellas are large and versatile, allowing you to use them as a reflector, or to shoot through.
And the case is roomy, sturdy and appears durable.
If there is any negative, it is the umbrella holder design; it requires a bit more figuring out to use effectively.

I use these stands and umbrellas for shoe mount flashes in case I need to set lights quickly. The stands are durable, the umbrellas diffuse the light well, and the case is sturdy. The stands and umbrellas mount to the side of the inside of the case.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
Great first set for those getting into off camera flash. Black cover easy to remove for shoot through. Assembled it wrong the first time but figured it out eventually (make sure your flash points towards center of umbrella). Greatly improves quality of light outdoors where flash cant be bounced. Only negative is you have to buy the flash mount adapters seperately, which i think are way too over priced at b&h.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
I use this with a 430ex and a 580ex canon speedlite, it works really great. It doesn't come with any instructions, so make sure you spend 15 minutes or so before going out to a shoot to get familiar with the set up, I was putting one of the heads on upside down at first and was getting really frustrated until I figured out the mistake. consider investing in a cheap light meter if you are going to use this for portraits to get the right exposure, and consider getting sand bags or something heavy to weight it down if you are going to use outdoors.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
This kit is awesome for the buck spent. The case is perfect as I can easily fit my tripod in it. The black cover on the umbrella is very easy to remove and put back on.
The only negatives about the kit would be that it does not come with a hot shoe for my flash and that the stands are aluminum, black would have been better.

Comments about Photogenic Two Umbrella and Stand Kit:
This is my first lightstand kit, and so far I am not disappointed. I use this both around home and as a portable studio. The stands themselves are nice and seem sturdy, but you should definitely plan on using sandbags to weight them. Don't forget an adapter for the flash unit if you are using shoe-style connections. The 45" umbrellas are a nice size, but I'm not real confident in the build quality of those. After a few uses the fabric seems to have separated from the center shaft, but if I am careful, it should be OK. I'm also having a little trouble getting the umbrella attached securely to the bracket without crushing the shaft. On the other hand, umbrellas are not too expensive, and I can replace them if I have to. The bag seems quite nice with the capacity to hold up to 4 stands and umbrellas. So; stands, bag, and bracket are all great, the umbrellas themselves, I don't know.

I purchased this to be able to take portraits of my kids as they grow up. I'm just getting into off camera flash and this filled the bill perfectly. I looked at another kit at [...] that was a little less but this one has bigger umbrellas and a bag to keep it all in. Works great for what I wanted.

I was surprised at how well made these items are. I don't know about long term durability but they seem to be substantial and easy to set up. The bag is heavy duty and very large (enough to hold extra kit).
