The Sony HVR-A1E is the entry level HDV camcorder that records high definition video as well as DVCAM and DV standard-definition video. The camera uses a single 3-megapixel CMOS chip to capture images. The use of a CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) chip allows the camera to capture amazing high quality images while consuming less battery power and making the camera smaller overall. The Enhanced Imaging Processor (EIP), a Sony created technology, enables the camcorder to capture and process high-definition video and high resolution still images with the highest levels of contrast and detail. This model is specifically for PAL system video applications.

Comments about Sony HVR-A1E "PAL" HDV Camcorder:
I use this camcorder for short movies and documentary.
Great colors for day/outdoor shot. Very useful.
But when you are shotting in low light it's very fast noisy. If you use a tripod you need to remove the quick set to switch tape or battery. There are one ring to control zoom or focus.

Comments about Sony HVR-A1E "PAL" HDV Camcorder:
I was more than happy with DVCAM format doing professional work in broadcast quality.
Then came HD and people think that more detail and more sharpness is more better. Well,...
With this camera I can do both, for what it is worth.

Comments about Sony HVR-A1E "PAL" HDV Camcorder:
For documentaries were intimate interviews make most of it, a small but professional camera such as this one allow the interviewed to feel more at ease and give you more moving freedom. Light weight and convenient for independent filmmaker that have a budget but are searching quality image. A wireless anchor mic added with the shotgun mic and you are done.

I just released a documentary about street racing, and this camcorder worked out great, I love how lite it is and how great the HD is on it also, to me it's not one bad thing that I can say about it.

Comments about Sony HVR-A1E "PAL" HDV Camcorder:
Being a filmmaker myself, I did change sides of the camera in the last years to become a presenter. But I still love to film, so I decided to buy myself a small camera to film at least my own video journals. It is great fun!!!! The camera has professional functions, professional audio recording, but is not soo good in low light conditions.Anyways, thank you for a great product, [...]Ulla

Comments about Sony HVR-A1E "PAL" HDV Camcorder:
Fairly user friendly, a little on the small/light side when shooting hand-held. It is awful in low-light conditions - it needs min 7 lux. So if you shoot concerts etc at night, don't go for this camera. And as usual with Sony camcorders, keep an eye on your audio levels.
