Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
I'm a DSLR filmmaker and over the years I've acquired so much expensive equipment that it is a necessity to get some sort of protection for my gear. Before I got this Pelican case, I was using backpacks and soft carrying travel bags with the components mainly wrapped in bubble wrap. I started getting sick and tired of lending out my gear to other people to use and have them give it back to me scratched up or even broken at times. So I started looking for a hard case, preferably with foam inserts, and under $200.
I've used Pelican cases before on more professional sets so I decided to check out the prices on some of them and this one blew my mind at how large it was and within my price range. I bought it without hesitation, which now that I look back, I should have reviewed other models first but honestly speaking, there is nothing quite like this case. It's watertight, chemical resistant, and corrosion proof WITH a lifetime guarantee. You just can't beat that. What about the foam inserts?
Well I followed up on its instructions to use a toothpick method to pluck out the shapes within. Best to lay out what you want first before making those plucks, but nothing is really permanent as you can always go back and put foam back it with rubber cement if you must. However I did find that although the time to create the shapes was time consuming, it was not too difficult. Just make sure you leave at least two columns of foam in-between cuts so to not make the wall too weak. There's even a second foam layer below the first one you pluck incase the item you're storing needs that added depth protection, which I needed for a few things.
Overall, excellent design. It is a little bulky but that comes with the territory of solid construction and protection...bulky but not too heavy either. I've tossed this case in the lake and it definitely floats with no trace of water inside afterward. (I didn't do it on purpose, I promise) Pelican is going to get future investments from me as I purchase more equipment that need protection.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
Already put the pelican to its test, strapped to the sled on the back of the jet ski on a photo shoot out to shipstern bluff. gale force winds and a big swell, huge amounts of water being sprayed on the case and no issues what so ever. I even managed to leave the case unattended on the back of the ski and the case slid off and no damage what so ever
So Stoked!!!
thanks you

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
I am doing more and more work with DSLR for video, and have been investing in more lenses. I'm on a budget, so it was important that I get a case that fit the following criteria:
1) Can fit all of my photo gear.
2) Can keep all of my gear safe regardless of shoot conditions (I sometimes travel overseas with gear).
3) Is under $200.
The 1600 Series Pelican case fits all of these criteria. So far, I've fit a DSLR body, 5 lenses, cards and battery. I still have over half a case left for other items I plan to get in the near future. I think, in the end, I'll fit an additional 1-2 lenses, 2 flashes, and an additional camera body in the case.
My only critique would be that this case somewhat crosses the line of what is small enough to carry. I'm a larger guy, so it's manageable for me. But, if it is fully loaded, it might be a bit of trouble to lug it around.
Also, don't forget to get a silica gel pack for the case.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
To protect your gear this case is outstanding.
It has an effective water tight O ring system.
It will stand up to pretty much anything with the possible exception of being run over by a mack truck.
The pluck foam interior protects your equipment. An excellent choice for travel or storage. For storage I would recommend using a desiccant to prevent mold.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
Case works great. It was between this and SKB and choose this because the size. Latches are definitely a lot harder to open than the SKB trigger latches but they're not too bad (A LOT better than their old latches..)
Case is heavy as expected..but it should be if you want to protect your gear.
The PicknPluck foam was pretty easty to use as well. Having to glue pieces back together didn't come out that great so take a lot of time to plan it out before you start ripping the foam apart.
I currently store audio equipment in the case: microphones, cables etc..and it seems to do the job just fine.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
This case is extremely rugged and accomodates my sound gear, mainly microphones and accessories, very well. I am on the road and this case is bounced around by baggage handlers. I never worry about the security of my gear once it's locked in the Pelican 1600 case. Great product and built to last.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
This case is very solid, I am housing all my necessary lenses, my camera body, audio recording gear, accessories, and much more in this case.
It is a big case.
I have used Pelicans with rental companies, and they all look very used but still sturdy as a rock.
I would get this for anyone who wants a neater, cleaner way to store their expensive gear.
For the price, it was easy to justify the long term benefits of this product.
Pick and Pluck foam is easy to manage. I used the toothpick method in the directions given, and I eventually got the hang of it.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
This particular case is in use as the primary case for my Soundcraft MFXi8 audio mixing desk. I considered a soft case for the mixer but decided on the better protection that a hard case provides. I use a number of Pelican cases for my video / audio equipment, and lighting gear. Whilst the initial outlay may seem high, and the case a little heavy, what you get in return is extreme ruggedness but more importantly: protection for your valuable and delicate equipment.
The case has clasps on three sides with a hinge on the fourth. The lid hermetically seals so the case will float should this need ever arise.
The foam inserts are configurable so that your equipment sits tightly in place and has plenty of cushioning around it.
Highly recommended.

Since I have this product just for one week now, I can only comment on first impressions. I like how sturdy everything feels, how tight it closes and with proper care I can see this case will last me a lifetime. I have a lot of other hardshell cases, a few Erno (German) Aluminum cases that served me well over thirty years now, they are just as good now as when I bought them. I think this pelican case is no different. In short, I love it.

Comments about Pelican 1600 Case with Foam (Black):
I bought one of these cases a few weeks ago to house my microphones that I take with me to venues (I work in live sound), and it has worked out perfectly. The construction is second to none - not making it any heavier than need be, by the way. After throwing it around a bit and using it on the road, it has proven that it will be extremely trust worthy for decades to come. The pick-and-pluck foam was easy enough to remove and make cut-outs also. All in all, a great product.
