The Nikon D200 was sold to me used and it had a Tokina AT-X Pro 16-50mm lens on it, which I'll review separately. After spending several hours on the computer and with my new camera going over the various functions, settings, etc. I found the most commonly used were readily available ... shutter speed, aperature and ISO/ASA. Once you get used to the menu system, you'll find this camera gives excellent professional looking results. The only "down side" is learning the menu and settings system it uses. The camera did not come with a users manual due to being used, and after downloading that, I found it was quite easy to adapt to.

Great overall camera better value than d300 has all the features you need and nothing you don't such as live view. Very easy to adapt to this camera from a d40. Only problem I see is slightly in accurate autofocus system and excessive noise at iso400 and up.

This is the second D200 I have bought. The build quality is great. Typical Nikon durability - it simply feels rugged enough in your hands. This is a better thought out camera. Example: to turn on light for contorl panel AND flash, simply move momentary contact switch around shutter release (this one action turns on BOTH pieces of equipment). Images are crisp, color is good. Owners manual is well written and thorough.

This camera does not have the very latest technological subtleties but they are a tiny and unimportant part of all the capabilities of a camera in this class. This is a great camera and a great value under $1000.

I've used Nikons for years, beginning with a Nikon FTN. My first Nikon digital was a D70s. I recently dropped it and sustained a crack in case which worried me. Therefore, I set it aside and looked for a replacement. I wanted the new D300 but, could not justify the price difference; almost twice the price of my D200(and probably worth it, if you have the extra cash laying around). I love my new D200. Have had it only two days and already am familiar with controls and menus. Not all that different from my D70s. The D200 is really a bargin now, that it's price has come down so much. I like the "heft" of it. Feels good and looks good. Reminds me of my film F100. Nice solid feel. Great photos and everything else you'd expect from a high quality Nikon camera.

I just bought this camera last month december 08 and i have been using it for parties since. Amazingly this camera delivers good results. I would recommend any user of this camera to have an extra battery and a flash for low light shooting.

I'm a retired pro, with a lot of Nikon lenses from my film cameras. This camera has similar handling characteristics to an F3, takes all my Nikkor AI lenses, and gives my 500 mirror Nikkor a "boost" to 750.
The quality is what I expect from a camera suited to professional use, and while it doesn't have the pixel count or some zippy features of newer models, the image quality is excellent, and I don't use many zippy features on any camera.
Before reading the "how to" of using the AI lenses, I used a couple anyway, thinking I'd probably get nothing, but I got good exposures even doing it wrong, treating it as a film camera. You can't get better than that!

The D300 is out now so the D200 is a great value. I so some professional photography and this camera is well suited for that. The 10Mp helps with getting my photos into the Stock Agency which has strict quality control. I like that I can use my older Nikon lenses from the film days. The D200 is a great camera and for me was an upgrade from my D70.

The D 200 has reached an attractive pricepoint where it offers the best value over the D40 D90, etc. Unless one needs the lower noise/higher ISO of the D300, or the full frame of the D3 and D700 (at a considerably higher price, this is the one to get. Hurry before Nikon discontinues it.

I loved my d200. It is a great camera. I think it should be bought by someone who is debating the d90 but is more serious and likes a more professional feeling and preforming camera. The controls and setting are a big plus. Its very nice to use and allows for very easy setting changes. It is really nice image quality too. The only thing i didn't like at all was the pixilation in dark areas like clouds. I prefer this to the d90 any day.

After reading several reviews of Nikon's new line up I was almost convinced that all of thier older cameras were junk and should be thrown in the trash. Not true, the D200 was an awesome camera when it first came out and it still is. Now that it is about half the price that it was a year ago it is a steal. One can save a lot of money if one just stays a generation or two behind. Of course, one can also spend that extra money on glass.

I love that it has a sync connector for my external flash. The funcionalities are getting much better, easy to use, handy, fast.

I can use all my Nikon lenses, it even works fine with non CPU lenses, it has options for that kind.

This a great camera. Just perfect inbetween step before steping up to a D300 or the newer D700.
Very solid body and easy to navigate menues.
I was very surprised at how good the high ISO images come out specially witht he noise rduction activated. and long exposure images are amazing too. All in all it is a great camera.
