Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I use the D200 as a back up now for my D700, but it probably works the other way around most of the time. I like the button and dial setup on the camera, once learned, it makes switching setups for different shots easier then some of the newer cameras. The photos produced by the D200 when setup properly are as good as any camera out there. I highly recommend for new users that you invest in one of the DVD tutorials. They will help you work through the menus and functions of the camera. With the right lenses, you'll be happy with the results. Nikon builds a good product, and the D200 is one of their best cameras.

I use my D200 to take photographs of African wildlife. I travel to Africa every year and the D200 performs extremely well under the dusty and hot conditions.
An excellent buy!

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
It's been awhile now since I'v had the camera, and I still love it.
Would I like something else … heck yeah, the new D300 or D3 would be really nice to have, BUT do I NEED ether of these new ones … NO!
The D200 is built like a tank, which is something I like.
It's fast enough for me (at this time)
It's NOT a point and shoot camera. for that I would recommend the Olympus C8080 (if you can find one).
I use the camera for outdoor, family and some product shots, and it's never let me down.
Now that's not to say I haven't taken some bad pictures with the camera, but it was I would took the bad picture, not the camera.
I got mine with the 18-200 lens, and like most folks, hardly ever take it off. It's a great all around lens. I have since purchase several other lens, which is about the only bad thing I can say about owning a Digital SLR camera. Notice I said Digital SLR camera, not D200. ANY SLR is likely to cost you money as you try to have the best of toys to go along with the camera body.
Off topic a bit.
If you are going to purchase a tri-pod for this or any other camera - get the BEST one you can afford, as you will be up-grading if you don't.
From what I've seen, get the best body you can afford to, knowing you'll want Good or Great glass / lenses. The lenses will work on almost any body from the same manufacture you go with. And good glass can make as much difference to your photo's as a good / better / expensive body.
Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
Nothing is perfect BUT- The D200 with the 18-200 mm lens comes mighty close to it. I have had the camera only a short while. So far I have found no reason to change lens. The 18-200 does it all.I have been an F4 & F5 user for years. The D200 gives me the feel and quality I have been accustomed to.The D200 also seems to be very easy on batteries. First job I worked had 226 shots and completed the job on one battery. So far I am very pleased with the unit.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I don't foresee me saying anything that hasn't been saidalready. Basically, it's the awesomeness that which is theD200. While the better cameras are...well...better, this issimply an amazing camera. I upgraded from the D70, and wow.I also use the 18-200 DX lens with it, and it's the lens Ikeep on it at all times, unless I'm going for a higher rangetelephoto shot.I won't be redundant by spilling out its features, but my ohmy. Oh and the lens? Well it's one of the best lenses ever.Wide angle to telephoto? I mean wow. The clarity, focusspeed, ease of use.
Expertise: Enthusiast, semi-pro.
Problems Encountered: I gave design 4 stars, which really should be 4.5 stars. It's solely based on the fact that the lens zooms in or out, depending on if one holds it up or down, and it sometimeshappens when you least want it to. Keep it gripped, andyou'll be fine. It's not a bad thing per se, it's simply anuisance.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I've been a Sony/Canon point & shoot guy most of my photographic life and mercy me what I've been missing! Been scouring the internet looking for a quality/dependable DSLR camera kit and this one looks to be the cream of the crop. I laughed the first time I held it in my hands, really did! Couldn't get over the quality build of this camera compared to what I've used in the past, it fits perfectly into my hands and the rubber grips are wonderful! Looking forward to taking a lot of great pictures with this one and after I opened the box and held it in my hands I'm glad I spent the extra money and got the D200 instead of the D80.The 18-200mm Lens is awesome as well, haven't noticed the lens creep that I've read in a lot of reviews, hopefully won't.Absolutely recommend the multi-battery pack (MB-D200), provides extra grip on top of providing you with extra battery power, you'll have to buy an extra battery of course.Hats off to B&H, they're the best for sure. If you're thinking about purchasing a camera in the near future, give them a shot, they're #1 in my book!

Problems Encountered: Only problem that i have encountered is that the USB cableisn't long enough.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
What an awesome combination. Nikon has come a long way since the D1. I have used many of nikon film cameras over the years, with my favorite being the F5. I purchased the original D1 when it was released, and was disappointed greatly. I returned to the F5 for several years, and purchased the Fuji s2 pro to try digital again, with great results. Now I have gone back to Nikon bodies and the image quality from the D-200 is quite good, with the ability to make large prints. The 18-200 VR lens is awesome, super fast and accurate AF. With the 18-200 vr and the 80-400 vr, I have eliminated the need to carry multiple lenses in the field Although I still use prime lenses often, I don't pack them out hiking around anymore. Very impressed and satisfied with this purchase. Hopefully it will hold up for many years of excellent images.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
This is a sweet camera. It's also lighter than the big bodies so I can actually take it in the field. It would be hard for a beginner to take advantage of it (high resolution and many features), but people who have the knowledge and technique will be able to pick it up and absolutely rock. For Nikon system users (since the F5) it will become transparent in a day or two. The kit lens is slow, but it really is very versatile. I end up using it more often than not.
Problems Encountered: Buy a couple extra batteries and keep one in your pocket, charged at all times.

I have been a professional photographer for 5 years and I just recently upgraded to the D200 and it was the best choice I have made. Not only do I get far superior speed and response, the camera cost is not breaking my wallet. This camera is by far the best camera for weekend professional photographers.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I have always coveted a Nikon and finally I chose the D200 and 18-200mm combination as my starting point. The change from the Sony Alpha 100 was like changing from a Toyota to a BMW.The next morning before dawn (jet lag!) the first shots were in the bag. What an excellent lens! Perfect shots, hand held in very low light. The design and controls make a substantial (not heavy) camera a natural extension of the photographer. Coupled with the Speedlight 800 good shots are almost a given in all conditions.
Problems Encountered: Lens creep when zooming.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
After shooting with the D1X for several years, I decided to get the D200 and see what it was capable of. Both cameras are built like tanks, rugged and stylish and fits perfectly in my hand. Needless to say, I haven't been using the D1X as much! I plan on keeping the D1X, but now it's second fiddle to the D200. If D200 was available prior to buying the D2X , I would have saved a lot of money!
Problems Encountered: I've yet to experience any problems, minor or major.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
After using Canon and then Nikon SLRs I got into digital photography several years ago with a Sony CD-based point-and-shoot. What a change from using a good SLR! After a trip to Yosemite last fall I decided it was time to get back to a digital SLR and, after a lot of research, chose the D200 and 18-200 VR lens. In short- I love it- have shot thousands of photos in the 9 months I've had it with very few disappointments. The D200 has superb features and performance- the 5 fps is especially nice, and the color rendition wonderful. It even meters with some of my old AI-S lenses which is one of the reasons I went with the D200 vs. the D50 or D70 (D80 wasn't available then). The body is rock-solid and built to last. I'm delighted with this camera and recommend it to serious amateurs like myself. The 18-200 isn't as sharp as good primes and creeps like a toddler but what can you expect from an 11:1 zoom lens! It's a great walk-around zoom- I wish it had another f-stop or two but this lens is one great piece of engineering for the price. In short- if you want a fantastic camera and lens in this price range you can't do better.
Problems Encountered: None, except it gets heavy- make sure you get a shock-absorbing neck-strap (my old OP/TECH works beautifully).

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
This camera is a worthy upgrade from the D100 in its speed of focus, short shutter lag, and built-in shooting options. However, BEWARE if you are still using Windows 98SE and/or Nikon View5 . IT WILL NOT WORK with them. The included software, Nikon Picture Project 1.6, is a novice-level editor useful only to beginning point&shooters, is slow and severely limited, and WILL NOT EXPORT to other programs such as Photoshop. The alternative extra-cost Capture NX will not run on 98SE. You will be stuck with BUYING A NEW COMPUTER to go with your new expensive camera. I'm glad I kept my D100 for backup.
Problems Encountered: No problems in use; everything is easily accessible and user-friendly. Just don't try to remember all at once which custom features you programmed into which of the four shooting menu banks. If you really need all of them, you probably should consider a D50 instead, with all its little pictograms and shooting modes.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I have been using the D-200 since mid-February with no problems at all. Making the transition from medium format film to digital was a long process and I tried most of the digital cameras as they became available- this D-200 is the best I have tried, period. The other cameras simply didn't live up to expectations. Not only is the D-200 easy to use and learn, I feel that it produces the best image of any current digital camera, right out of the box. The menu and custom settings are easy to navigate, understand and use. When paired with the 18-200 VR lens, it's a do-all camera. I especially was attracted to this combination because I didn't want to constantly change lenses- this will eliminate most of the problems associated with dust on the sensor.
Problems Encountered: The only problem that I have encountered is not related to the camera or lens- it's the fact that Nikon still doesn't have an ample supply of spare batteries available for purchase.

Comments about Nikon D200 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-200mm VR II Lens:
I held out as long as possible to buy my first digital SLR camera. I own a Sony and Pentax point-and-shoot and some Nikon film SLR's and the transition to the D200/18-200 lens was smooth. Shot right out of the box. Didn't even need the quickstart guide at all. The lens is very sharp handheld even in low light. I had the opportunity to compare this outfit to the Nikon F5, N80, D70, D100; Fujifilm Finepix ProS3; Canon Mark II DS, 30D, 5D on a recent photo expedition. My F5 proved much too heavy, as was the Canon Mark II DS and the Fujifilm Finepix Pro S3. We were island-hopping with lots of rock climbing an hiking for a week. The guy who owned the D200 with 18-200 lens never had to change lenses the entire trip, only brought one lens and never had to clean his sensor, which I learned is a big deal. The Canon Mark II was rendered essentially useless by mid-week because of sensor dirt and 18 of us could not clean it adequately. The 30D is outperformed and the 5D is double the price but not double the performance.
Problems Encountered: The MD200 battery holder makes the D200/18-200 lens combo too heavy and ungainly. It does not add to performance. I would only use it for balancing the camera with heavier lenses, say 300/2.8 or longer on a tripod.I would also use it if I chose rechargeable AA batteries( the MD200 is the battery holder). Bring a current inverter so you can charge it from your vehicle if you are far from an electricity source. If I was reasonably close to home I would buy an extra Nikon EN-EL3a, stick in in my pocket and move on. Battery life is short.

I've been a photographer for more then 20 years now and I've owned many, many cameras from olympus om1's to hasselblad V series, Mamiyas 645, Contax 645, Canon's etc etc. I can tell you this this camera for the prosumer and professional as either a primary or backup. Amazing.

I have this camera with this lens (did not buy kit). I totally love it. I ebayed my Canon 35mm and glass to get it. I personally am impressed with the sharp focus, great color, and fantastic metering. Being able to assign certain buttons to do what YOU want them to do is also neat. The lens is amazing too. I shot a lit up sign with no tripod and the shutter was open for over a minute (seriously.. I didn't think it would work). No blurs, fantastic picture.
