The Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD is a high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 88-320mm in 35mm format. This compact, lightweight 55-200mm telephoto zoom lens is the ideal "second lens" in a complete lightweight digital camera lens system.

The 55-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 3.1 ft. (0.95 m) over the entire zoom range, the top level of the closest focusing distance among tele-zoom lenses. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.5, you can enjoy easy and convenient close-up photography.

Note! Not compatible with 35mm cameras or digital cameras using full-size image sensors. AF not supported by D40 and D60 cameras.

Improved Optical Design Optimized for Digital SLR
The lens features a redesigned optical design to improve the overall distribution of optical power while reducing various aberrations to the absolute minimum and achieving remarkable downsizing at the same time.
LD (Low Dispersion) Glass Element
An LD (Low Dispersion) glass element is used to accomplish effective compensation of on-axis and lateral chromatic aberrations, a critical factor to enhance the optical quality in digital photography. As a result, the lens provides outstanding optical performance over the entire zoom range.
Internal Surface Coating to Reduce Ghosting and Flare
Lens features Internal Surface Coatings (i.e., multiple-layer coatings on cemented surfaces of plural elements) and new multiple-layer coating technology on ordinary elements in order to minimize reflections that occur when light enters through the front element and to reduce image degrading effects caused by the imagers themselves.
9-Blade Diaphragm
The rounded 9-blade diaphragm opening makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural.
Di-II Series Design
Design has been improved by adding a gold-colored band between the focus and zoom rings to enhance the appearance and make it stand out as a Di-II lens. The rubber patterns of the zoom and focus control rings have been improved at the same time to compliment the digital camera design style and to provide better handling.

Comments about Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD Lens for Nikon Digital:

I will use this for personal use. I'm replacing a broken lens that only zooms to 70. This is the same size, but it zooms to 200. It's very compact, and simple; no switch is needed for macro like on an old Canon mount lens I have that's 70-300. I'm going to break it in on a trip to Jamica in a month. Be jealous. :)

Comments about Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD Lens for Nikon Digital:

This lens has a very compact design for it's range, and is a very good lens. Extremely clear images, and the mechanisms have a very good feel to them. It is also very easy to exchange with other lenses. Sometimes though on auto focus, it will cycle all the way through and then refocus.
