The Ikelite SubStrobe DS-200 has the IC chip and IGBT circuitry allowing this ultra wide and powerful strobe to be compatible with current digital cameras and the TTL circuitry in Ikelite digital housings. The strobe has an ultra wide 100° beam. This eliminates the need for a diffuser that would reduce the light output by one stop.
The SubStrobe DS-200 operates TTL or Manual full, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 power. There is also a special soft-lite reflector and 4800° kelvin color temperature that provides exceptional flesh tones and warm natural colors. The built-in aiming light not only helps with aiming the strobe, it is powerful enough to use as a dive light.
The electronics are completely sealed from the battery compartment. The strobe provides approximately 160 flashes per a battery charge.

I'm not sure why so many people have flooding issues with these strobes. I've been using them for several years and haven't had one flood yet. I'm very careful when I'm screwing on the cap and I lube the o-ring every time I head out. And, regarding the above post about the head not coming with a charger- the reason Ikelite does this is because the chargers are expensive and people like me who have several Ikelite strobes don't want to have to pay for an additional charger every time we buy another strobe. If you want a charger and other components, buy the kit. My only complaint about these strobes is that the flash tube could be faster. I'm not talking about recycle time here.

I have been using this flash for about 2 years. Its a great flash BUT, in my humble opinion, the battery compartment is poorly designed, and when it floods you are out [$]. It seals in the back with a screw on cap that has a o-ring inside it. The cap is difficult to screw on and if you are not careful the o-ring will 'bunch up" and it will leak. Mine has leaked twice. I lucked out the first time as it was in fresh water and it didn't flood completely, so the battery was not ruined. I am going to make sure to use a new o-ring every single trip from this point on. If I could do it again I would seriously consider a different flash.

Ikelite strobe is a good one but when you pay so much money for the strobe it would be better if it arrived with charger. It gives a nonprofessional character to it when it is not included.

I bought this strobe to replace the DS-125 which I had to send back to Ikelite for a second time for repair. During the first dive witht he DS-200 the battery compartment flooded. The strobe did work for about 50 shots. Then this black ooze began dripping from the housing. Sure enough the battery compartment flooded. I used the lubricant for the O-rings as instructed, but somehow the thing flooded. [...] Learn this lesson: get insurance and take a back up (if it's not in the repair shop.)

Very powerfull strobe. Only problem has been that in 2 years of service, 2 of three of these strobes have flodded through the switch housing. These were repaired free of charge by Ikelite's customer service.
