Most items OK, kit not so much

By Luciano

Pros

  • Excellent Mike
  • Good windshield
  • Very good boom pole

Cons

  • Bag almost useless
  • Shock mount not working

Best Uses

  • Field sound
  • Interviews

The microphone is excellent, and so is the WS6 Windshield and the boom pole. The cables provided are OK. However, the bag is of minor utility and the anti-shock mount is not good at all, as it allows vibrations from the boom pole to be easily passed on to the microphone. After the purchase, I realized it would have been more convenient for me to just buy the items separately, and add a much better anti-shock mount or the Rode blimp instead or the mount and windshield.

I bought this a couple months ago and have had no problems so far. I use it with my H4n zoom and it works seamlessly. I do wish the bag was a little bigger though. Overall, I think it is a great kit to buy.

    ok for the value

Like most kits this one too packs lots of junk around one great piece of gear (in this case Rode NTG2 mic). So besides the stuff that works (mic, softee, boom pole) you also get plastic-y shock mount (that will break after a few uses) and a bag that won't fit all the gear. Figure out for yourself if the junk is worth the savings.

    Great for Student Filmmakers

    Pros

    • Easy assemble
    • Super cardioid range

    Cons

    • Super sensitive

    Best Uses

    • Independent Film
    • Production
    • Student film
    • Weddingevents

As a student filmmaker I find this kit to be very helpful when it comes to production. The sound quality from the rode NTG-2 picks up really clean sound (of course it helps w/ the add on softie). Super Cardioid sound pick up, I haven't really used the hand grip as much because I don't see the need to use it at the moment, but the boom pole is sturdy, shock mount is pretty useful but I just wish you can adjust it sideways as well just because it looks crooked on my camcorder.

If your a student with a few extra cash, this can definitely help boost up your production value =)
