Set it and forget it if you want good pictures. Try Program Mode, High Sens, Change the ISO's and get outrageous Daytime, and Low Light & Nightime Shots. I set the camera's ISO at Auto & 400 and shot close to 1800 pictures during our recent trip to Italy( Mid Feb 2007). Carnival in Venice, Cathedrals and Concerts in Florence & Rome. I shot stills with short Movies in between. The software supplied ( Photo Studio) allows you to view in slide show mode. It plays your stills and your movies in the sequence you shot them. You will blow your friends away!Every expert speaks of Noise. Everyone skims over low light and night shots which to me represents at least 50% of what I shoot. Cannon is NG for night and Sony offers infared which gives you an almost B&W picture. All the new Digitals shoot good daytime Pics. The FZ7 is a winner all around. It's so good that I just bought the FZ50 at 2X the price. I'm taking it back for the FZ8 - same as the 7 with higher Megapixels. Lighter and larger LCD. Buy it and shoot away.Enjoy!
Problems Encountered: Neck Strap supplied positions the camera too close to properly view the large screen. Camera Bag supplied does not attach to the camera and can easily be lost. SD Card supplied is almost useless. 32 Mgs - Too Small!

I'm a long time 35mm SLR user who has resisted conversion to Digital. Purchased this camera as an emergency travel body to get around current Hand-Carry flight restrictions. I have been amazed by it's performance...Flash is excellent within it's Range. Macro performance is surperb, I've gotten the best butterfly shots in almost 50 years of shooting. Menu's, new to me, take a little time to get used to, but after several weeks of light use, I find I seldom have to refer to the manual. I have been shooting ISO 200, 6 mp, with sharp, noise free results.

My first Digital camera and I picked a great one. easy to use,not too small for my big hands, wonderful pics and the price was RIGHT! I`ve had the camera for about a week, I`m still learning and it`s an easy camera to learn on. I went with the new OCZ SD 133x memory, bought two 512mg`s. no problem with either card & very fast. Got the Panasonic hard case and the Impact battery, both were excellent!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera (Black):
I was not expecting much from this camera, but I came away quite impressed with its performance and durability. Images tend to be noisy, but at ISO 80, its not a major issue. Even outdoor twilight flash images at ISO 200 were not noisy to the point of distraction. I am confident that 6 X 8 inch images will look very good. Metering seemed to be well within the tolerances of much more expensive cameras. I recorded all images at the highest quality JPEG setting available; I experienced almost no problems with blown highlights. I have imported the JPEG images to my laptop and will convert them all to tiffs, then save the tiffs as master images for post-production adjustments, then save the final edits of each keeper image as a JPEG. The camera handles beautifully, especially for folks like me who have smaller hands. The camera has the ergonomics of a much larger DSLR. The camera is very light, but has a feeling of solidity that makes it seem a high quality tool. Image quality seems best at the wide end of the zoom range, and begins to suffer around 3X to 4X (telephoto freaks may want another camera). The wide end suits my needs perfectly because my photographic vision exists entirely in the 28-100 range; the FZ7 has equivalent focal lengths in its 12X zoom range from 36-432. The LCD is bright and contrasty, and the power LCD feature brightens the screen enough to be useful in full noonday sunlight on the beach. The electronic viewfinder (EVF), albeit tiny, is useful and really quite impressive! It is a welcome addition in very brightly backlighted situations, and in almost any other circumstance that prefers a dedicated, enclosed viewfinder. The flash, when used with care and regard for its inherent limitations, is another useful feature of the FZ7, producing surprisingly little red-eye. Battery longevity on a single charge is very impressive, easily offering a full day of shooting with heavy LCD and light to moderate flash usage. I frequently photographed from 9 a.m. (I was on vacation - gimme a break) to midnight and beyond on a single charge. The durabilty of the camera turned out to be rather impressive, too! At the beach it stayed - often just covered by a towel or t-shirt - in a cane beach bag which was not all that tightly sealed against the elements. Sand found its way onto the camera, but never became a problem. The camera got a thorough wipe-down after each trip to the sand and surf. I took the camera on a high speed Sea Rocket boat ride in strong winds. Everything and everybody on the boat got absolutely drenched, including the FZ7. I had been on the boat a few years previous to this trip, but that ride was not very wet. The FZ7 malfunctioned for awhile, falling into a different mode from what was set, but the images would still display. Then the images failed to play back. Within 24 hours of the boat ride the FZ7 had dried out and was again - and still is - functioning properly. The images downloaded without a problem from the camera to the laptop. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 will never serve as a primary photographic tool for the serious shooter. It isn't meant to do so. It is a very worthy consideration for anyone looking for an everyday camera useful for capturing those unexpected slice-of-life moments. Had the FZ7 not survived the dousing - which was admittedly, even if unexpectedly, abusive treatment - I would not hesitate to purchase another. I highly recommend this camera for anyone considering a digital point-and-shoot.
Problems Encountered: noise is a valid concernthis camera can serve only as a supplement to a DSLR

I am moving way up from the disposable 35mm camera. My mission was and is to simply capture good picture. The circumstances in which I would be capturing those pictures were not usual. I needed zoom capability. I also learned that megapixels were important. Well, the Lumix DMC-FZ7 has 12x and more zoom capability. I can now take pictures of my kids at track meets from 100 yards away. The pictures are great. Processing the pictures to hard copy is even more fun. Of course it so easy to use the MMC cards. I have explored a lot of the other features. I have found that this camera is truly amazing. As it turns out this is a camera that I can grow with. I believe I have found a new hobby. I have experimented with all types of photographs with great success. Simply put, I can now take not just good pictures but great pictures
Problems Encountered: I am still exploring the world of photography through this camera. All I see is good potential.

I have owned several digital, and many film cameras over 45 years as a keen amateur, and still own 4 film SLRs,a Fuji s602,and a Canon EOS 300D.After lugging the 300d and a 28-200mm lens around Austria, plus my S602(just in case),when I saw this Panasonic plus a leather case, and a 512mb SD card, with a 12x leica lens, and 6mp,I thought how much easier this would be on my shoulder!! After using it for a month,it certainly has much to offer the keen photographer. The print quality at A4 is excellent, but I recommend setting the saturation level to low, otherwise red flowers tend to come out too red,but at asa 400 the prints are sharp, although not as sharp as at lower settings, like nearly all small sensor cameras like this. There are many controls on the menue, and if you select a resolution of 4mp,the optical zoom will go to over 15x!I can't see a lot of difference on prints with only 4mp,so it's a useful feature. To sum up,it does everything a keen amateaur would need, plus it's so compact and easy and quick to use. It's quicker to to start up than the Canon and the Fuji, and so much lighter!
Problems Encountered: None so far.Seems well made

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera (Black):
After having owned a Nikon D100 SLR for a couple of years, I noticed the strangest thing....it spends lots of time in the closet. Every time I think about taking it out on a photo trip, the thought of carrying the bulky SLR, 400mm lens and tripod quickly sends me looking around for something easier to manage. The SLR package produces some tremendous images, but sometimes I just want to enjoy the trip and still get some good images. Having done my homework, it appeared the Lumix FZ7 was just about the best of its type on the market at the time, even compared to more expensive 10X-and-up zoom models. The Panasonic image stabilizer is reputed as the best in its class, and I agree it does perform amazingly well. The Leica lens is tack sharp. The controls are well thought-out and the menu is fairly intuitive and quickly learned. This model is considerably smaller than a D-SLR and very light. The image sensor used in point-and-shoot cameras such as this is much smaller than what is used in SLR's, so expecting similar performance is unreasonable. What I experienced is very impressive performance considering the compromise. It has certainly met my requirements. Given the convenience over a heavy SLR setup, it doesn't feel like much of a compromise.
Problems Encountered: The only problem experienced is that which separates point-and-shoot digital cameras from the SLR's: Image Noise. There has been many reviews done on this camera. All of them state somewhat higher-than-usual levels of image noise associated with this model (and other Panasonic models). In my experience, ISO200 is the highest image sensor sensitivity that may be expected to produce an acceptable image. There are higher settings available on this model, but image quality breaks down quickly beyond ISO200. At the lowest selectible sensitivity, ISO80 (and ISO100), noise is low to non-existant, particularly if the menu item noise reduction is set at maximum. Low-light problems associated with slower ISO sensitivity are mostly negated because of the fact that the camera can be hand-held at slower shutter speeds by virtue of the excellent image stabilization. If Panasonic can deliver a future model with best-in-class noise reduction, plus all the features and virtues of the FZ7, I suspect the competition would have to scramble! That's about the only drawback I have experienced, albeit, minor. Overall, this camera is a pleasure to own and use.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera (Black):
The ease of use of a point and shoot, but easily accessible features for the amateur pro such as myself. LOVE the trip calendar setting- quite useful for keeping track of cities/temples on a 2 month trip to China! Large LCD with intuitive controls. Best of all, a leica TWELVE X! optical zoom- equivalent to a 400+mm SLR lens?!?! Who needs more? And the shake factor is virtually nonexistant. The only thing I've noticed after 3 months of use is that the shutter release button could be a little more ergonomic- it's on the top of the camera- could really be angled for comfort. Menu access is intuitive-perhaps not as fab as my previous Sony, but easy nonetheless...Five stars.
