Comments about Steadicam 8017436 Replacement Camera Mounting Screw:
This screw is integral to the working of the Merlin. I would highly suggest you have two on hand. The one I bought originally with the steadicam wore-out after a year of moderate use. Tightening it with a screwdriver wears it out each time. Eventually you just strip it so that it can't be used any more because it won't tighten.

I use this screw on my steadicam merlin.
I bought my merlin used, and the seller had apparently lost the original mounting screw and had replaced it with a screw from the local hardware store. I figured it'd be worth attempting to go with something closer to the original equipment, so I purchased this screw. This screw from steadicam doesn't hold the camera in place any tighter than the generic screw I had been using, but I do like that its slot is large enough to allow it to be tightened using a coin.

It is just the perfect screw - just like the one that we lost. Which we then found in the sink.[$]

I use this with my Merlin steadycam for my Canon XH1 and it does the job okay. I slips off after much use and is one of the reasons I had to buy another one. I put plummers tape around it and it still slips a little but not as much.

[...]fits with the Steadicam Merlin. I had to buy one after I lost the original.
