For years, I got by okay with less. From Manfrotto heads even before the 701RC2 to the 503HDV I always "got by" okay. After "okay" stopped being good enough--when I knew I needed a job done right--I'd call in my friends who owned this head and hire them as my shooters. FINALLY, I decided it was time to have the ability to "do it the job right" myself if called upon--so I bought this head. It's just what I expected it to be--fantastic. Sure, it's overkill for the DSLR rig I mostly use nowadays, but it works fine nevertheless. I'm looking forward to many great years with this head, with all sorts of cameras atop it.

I use this fluid head for my DSLR Rig for independent work and school projects. It's well built and is extremely smooth. Can handle every movement I've needed so far. The counter balance system is a great feature, however it was a little confusing at first before I figured out that the dial can turn around multiple times to tighten or loosen the spring. I've had a bit of an issue getting perfect balance when I attach my 8" small HD monitor but otherwise its perfect. It's pricey but you get what you pay for.
