Comments about Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-200mm Super Zoom f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF:
Even though the lens is said to be compatible with the Nikon digital D-series it does not work the Nikon D40x.
In addition, if you zoom in to get a sharp focus and then zoom out the focus is off. Focus at any lens length must be focused at that length to ensure sharpness. A MAJOR drawback.

Comments about Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-200mm Super Zoom f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF:
I recently purchased this lens and haven't used it extensively, but my initial impression is that it is an excellent lens. My first photographs have been sharply focused with pleasing color and no discernable vignetting or barrel distortion. The lens is light, but feels solidly constructed. My only complaint is that the operation is a little stiff when zooming to the maximum focal length.
