The Crown XLS 402D is a-two channel stereo amplifier, offering 300W per side at 8 ohms, and housed in an exceptionally rugged 2 RU all-steel chassis.
The XLS 402D is notable for providing advanced protection circuitry, efficient forced-air fan cooling, and other enhancements normally associated with more expensive amplifiers, at a refreshingly moderate price point. This is trickle-down technology for the rest of us, from one of the premier amplifier manufacturers, and a worthy component of budget-conscious installations for conference rooms, houses of worship, clubs, theaters and lecture halls.

I use this to drive a pair of 12" transmission line sub woofers. This is my first "pro" amplifier. It's being used in a "high end" system with tube driven full range electrostatic speakers. It worked perfectly out of the box. The sound seems to have gotten smoother over the last couple of weeks. It has plenty of power. The bass response is very good and deep. I'm using it from 85Hz down so I can't comment on the rest of the sound spectrum.
My only complaint and it's not really a complaint is that the fan noise is evident if I get close (less than 4'). At my normal listening distance (12') I can't hear it.
I bought this on someones recommendation. I've been recommending it to my friends and fellow audiophiles. I'm going to buy another one.

I installed this product in an old community auditorium that previously didn't have a sound system. It runs super cool and doesn't require any additional ventilation. It performs great!

We used this to replace an older Crown unit in a mid-sized church that finally gave up. While the older unit was technically a higher end professional level unit, this replacement sounds every bit as good. It's driving 8 Bose 402 speakers (4 connected in a parallel/series arrangement for 8 ohm equivalent to each of the two channels). Every word is clear, and clean, with lots of reserve headroom. Outstanding value.

I must revise my evaluation of this amplifier. The problem I had turned out to be the lack of 1/4" phone inputs. My preamp has both XLR and phone outputs, however after research the XLR preamp outputs are both mic level, (200mv). I first used these to drive the amp. I just didn't have enough gain to achieve proper drive. After constructing an adapting connection from 1/4" preamp to XLR amp input it performs quite nicely. I'm now rating it a 4 for lack of 1/4" inputs.

Comments about Crown Audio XLS 402D - Two-Channel Power Amplifier - 300 Watts per Channel at 8 Ohms:
I have no idea how Crown can rate this amp @ 900 watts into 8 ohms bridged. It is nowhere close to that. I bought it as a replacement for my bass guitar amplifier which was rated much less that the Crown and performed MUCH better. Very disappointed. [...] I sold it to a friend who needed a power amp for his home studio. It is an effective amp for that application.

This will pair up with another amp to power a PA system for a three piece rock and blues band. It will allow for more power options during the gig and the 402D provides ideal options for this application. In addition,it's affordable!

I bought this for my new PA. We had an outdoor concert with folk, Jazz, and rock live bands and also recorded music.
Pros: This amp sounds great and was loafing.
It has power to spare.
I like the options of speakon connectors and binding posts for the outputs. I have yet to find any cons.

We use the amp in our church sound system. It is a great piece of equipment with plenty of headroom to spare. It will knock the socks off our speaker enclosure. Easy to install. Heavy duty cooling system. Runs quiet.
