I have had a set of Sennheiser RS-110 and RS-140's to compare these to. The 900mhz Sennheiser had constant interference (occasional loud buzzes, electronic modem sounds, hissing, buzzing, etc. etc.). This was extremely annoying, especially in quiet parts of music and watching movies/TV. I finally dished out some extra cash for these 2.4ghz Sonys at B&H hoping to finally be able to listen to my phones without constant random noise. They are extremely quiet at all times and at all volumes, no hiss or interference of any kind.
The sound quality is as good or better than the RS-140's and they are very comfortable. The auto on-off when you take them off your head is a great addition.
I hooked these up with the supplied TOSLINK to my Macbook Pro and sound quality is superb, good bass and crisp treble, no need for compression. I have not tried the 5.1 yet, but am very satisfied listening to music in stereo so far.
I am an artist who works 8-12 hours a day, so having good, comfortable phones is essential. Not dealing with cords keeps me sane when painting.
FYI - the strange battery that comes included is actually 2 AA's put together. You can use any AA batteries in the set, it is NOT proprietary.

Have used these headphones to listen to tv for 10 days. I am hard of hearing & use two hearing aids when watching tv. These headphones cause my hearing aids to shut down,I believe because of the magnets in the earpieces, so I have to remove my hearing aids to use, thus turning up the volume, hopefully not damaging my hearing further. The ear pads fit too loosely, allowing ambient noise to be louder than I would like. They also are too loose to lay flat while lifting wts. etc. or exercising on my treadmill. As most everyone else has said the headset is a pain to fit just right on the stand to recharge making a good connection. Very good sound with numerous options for changing the type of sound heard. So, good sound for tv, not so much for music, lousy design for the price.

Our TV equipment is in a case that keeps the sound enclosed in the unit. The new headphone system allows me to hear clearly without turning up the volume.

Comments about Sony MDR-DS6000 2.4GHz RF Wireless 5.1 Surround Headphone System:
Reasons for return: 1. These headphones cut out frequently (first day about twice an hour, and now about every other minute).
2. These headphones emitted a background noise which was slightly discernable on first day and nearly constant and louder now.
3. Bass tones are significantly distorted.
I connected headphone digital optical cable to DirecTV HD-DVR in kitchen and then the DirecTV HD-DVR in livingroom with same poor results. Yes, I recognized that my wireless router had to be reset whenever these headphones were in use and that these headphones would not function whenever microwave was operating, but these issues were only a nuisance.

This is a very sophisticated product with lots of bells and whistles. I had to have help setting it up for digital transmission. In the end we were not able to get digital on both DVDs and cable TV and had to settle for digital on DVDs and analog on TV. TV transmission is not all that good.

I use there headphones in the evening to watch TV and Movies on my 65" 3D DIRECTV. I can set the volume to my level. I've been using Acustic Research AW791 Digital Headphones for some time and these Sony MDR-DA6000 are a vast improvement, chrisp and clear sound, no static. Should have bought them sooner. Easy to set up. Takes a little fiddling around to put into the charger. So far have not found anything to complain about.

Comments about Sony MDR-DS6000 2.4GHz RF Wireless 5.1 Surround Headphone System:
I'm using the device in a 2-level house. Sometimes when not on the same level as the base, sounds cut off for a sec.
Also, I find the device resting on my head more easily when put at the opposite of the left-right side indications.
Other than that, sound is great.

Comments about Sony MDR-DS6000 2.4GHz RF Wireless 5.1 Surround Headphone System:
I bought these headphones for a parent that has lost partial hearing and can't hear the TV without disturbing everyone else. Very easy setup. I simply connected the base directly to TV optical link and plugged in the power cord. Sound quality is very good for wireless headphones. Casual listeners (TV, gaming etc.) will be very satisfied. (Note to audiophiles - Do NOT expect these phones to compete with the sound quality of similarly priced corded headphones, or the full, rich sound of a quality home theater/audio system. The sound is very good, but not excellent.) The charging base and headphones are both surprisingly light. Plenty of volume. As other people have noted, placing the headphones in the charger can be finicky, but there is a charging light on base to confirm that you have made a good connection. Very slick power saving design whereby unit stops transmitting when headphones are charging or when audio source is turned off, and headphones turn off the instant you take them off your head. Overall 4 out of 5 stars. Pros - very good sound and stereo effects, efficient power management, no interference, good range, lightweight, comfortable. Cons - A bit pricey, finicky charging contact, sound quality not quite as good as a set of corded phones.

Comments about Sony MDR-DS6000 2.4GHz RF Wireless 5.1 Surround Headphone System:
I have 7.1 channel receiver...and thought I was stooping down for a 5.1 headphone. No way baby, these Sony Headphones 5.1 RF Wireless are the real deal with quality surround sound! It's a Wow!
For now, it's only connected to my Blu-Ray Player, as my concern was for my wife..at the after 8pm hour and quiet time upstairs. Ok, guys, I know what you're thinking, that I'm making some big sacrifice or something...as it turns out, not at all! Please make me use these phones!
Just turn down volume to TV all the way [don't Mute, as you continue to see that ridiculous symbol on your TV] and then go to Sony headphone dock station to grab your 5.1 headphones...and when you put them on, the headset folds open at top, which engages the "on switch" for instant 5.1 beautiful rich sound!!
The sound quality is soooo good that I may find more reasons to put them on before the 8pm hour!
One thing, I plan to get these hooked up to Netflex or similar movie program for similar quality 5.1 wireless headphone sound! One "Con" is that it needs to be connected separately to these other devices, so I need to investigate further, add'l cabling,...and then to have use for all TV sound experiences. I'm still sticking with, "It's a Wow!!
By the way, no reason for me to write this review, just an email from the seller. It's my first review ever!

I purchased for a customer to use at his house connecting to Bose Companion 2 speakers on his computer.
Works for both digital and analog systems, which is great because I forgot to look for this before purchasing!
Good quality and connectivity over a decent distance. I connected my ipod in the kitchen to the receiver, then put the headphones on and went upstairs to the back of the house without losing connection.
Tested with digital tv connection too, and was happy to see this worked right away.
The headphones need to sit in a certain way to make the charging connection, and it may not be obvious at first.

I use the headphones with my home entertainment system after the kids go to bed...eliminates the worry of keeping them awake! Terrific sound and excellent range....I can pick up the signal from any point in my house. Blocks out most of the ambient noise...gives feeling of being emersed into my music and HDTV. My wife fell in love with the headphones...had to buy her her own. Setup is super easy!

[...] superior sound quality, especially for watching movies. I connect the base to the optical digital audio output from my receiver. I realize no drops in sound. Although the headphones and base are constructed with plastic parts, the quality seems quite good and not cheap. The volume is more than enough.

Comments about Sony MDR-DS6000 2.4GHz RF Wireless 5.1 Surround Headphone System:
Got this wireless set so I can move around the house taking care of business and still enjoy great audio without being tied to a limited area from a corded headset. Sounds are crisp and clear without noise when connected using digital audio cable. Tried the analog (red&white) lines-in and didn't like those since too much noise so ditch those & went back to digital cable. Relatively comfortable although the headphones are kinda heavy and the adjustable headband doesn't have a locking mechanism to prevent slipping, so after a while the ears get crushed from the weight of the headphones...or just my head is too small??? Overall good wireless headphones for mobility without sacraficing the sound, if connected by digital cable.
