The Good========The headphones come with a black carrying pouch and also fold up to reduce the size for easy transportation. The extra long 3 metre twisted cable gives you that free room a DJ needs to move about without becoming disconnected, held back or tripping up over a dangling straight cable and pulling the phones off breaking them (yeah, we've all done it!).Sony have left no flaws in the design for the DJ with the reversible option to fold back one headphone for mix & monitor harmonics as opposed to the old one headphone on one headphone off solution. One feature every DJ needs is closed sound to hear what's actually going on in the mix not in the club, Sony's closed-type headphones provide this perfectly, with a noise floor of 107db you can be sure to hear every beat, break, vocal and nanosecond of any mixing error to correct. The price is quite reasonable for professional DJ headphones of this calibre in comparison to other brands, after checking everywhere B&H offered the most economic deal on the internet even with shipping costs to the UK as opposed to other retailers which appeared to be highly elevated in comparison. The Bad=======The colour as with all audio equipment should be black, in this case Sony have opted for a dark brown for some reason. The closed headphone feature is as above perfect for mixing and DJ use it doesn't however provide the ambience of open-type headphones and isn't the best experience for personal listening pleasure (maybe I'm just used to the open-type).The Rest========The main reasons for purchasing these professional Sony headphones was their design and extreme frequency response of as low as >5Hz< and up to 80KHz for a sound science test, this isn't really needed for the professional musician or the DJ and doesn't improve sound quality out of the Nyquist human capacity of 44.1KHz, all in all they are a very decent pair of extremely comfortable well-priced professional DJ headphones packed with as many features that a pair of headphones can have that I'm sure will last as long as the Panasonic ones I previously owned for ten years, if you want to be the best DJ in town or you're an audiophile or studio artist Sony have it all in one: The MDR-V900HD.Overall9/10

Sound is excellent. Quality - not what you would expect from SONY. Terrible ear pad quality, the vinyl coating is coming off after just 2 (!!!) weeks! This was not the case with the older model (golden, non HD) which is STILL working after several years. I recommend NOT TO BUY this headphone until SONY changes the quality.

I use it with my H4N and my cannon 550D. Perfect combination. Easily blocks out background noises and provides crisp clear audio.
If you dont have a good studio monitor like the sony MDR-v900HD when DSLR filming you are in trouble!

I've used these to cross-reference for several mixing sessions, and the mid/high end clarity is incredible.... The low end also sounds nice, but the crisp sounds of the highend really stood out to me.

4th pair of MDR-Vs I've purchased. Best headphones I've ever worn. When these wear out, I'll by another pair.

I did purchase this Sony MDR-V900HD headphones as a resubstitute for studio monitors. And I'm very pleased with quality, sound is excellent. The only think what be suggested for producer is to change color of leather ear pads from brown to black to match color of headphones.

I use these for video editing and sound design in Final Cut Studio. I also take them out for field recording.
Pros: Very comfortable, excellent sound, good isolation.
Cons: (minor) Pads around ears don't breathe, so can get sweaty after a while. Cord rubber is so soft that it's difficult to corral and always slinks its way to the floor somehow.
But that's pretty minor. Overall, they're fantastic headphones.

I needed a pair of headphones to monitor audio for professional video gigs and must say these are awesome. Very comfortable, easy to use (they do fold up nicely and come with a leather carrying bag that compliments them), and so far no issues. Though the cable seems to be a bit loose (read unravels a bit too easily), I can't complain.

I've had alot of different headphones. The Sony V900HD has the best sound, and comfort for the money. You can spend a whole lot more and get less. Just remember whatever headphones your are using will be affected by what you are driving them with. These cans sound great with anything from an IPod to a large amp.

Comments about Sony MDR-V900HD - Stereo Studio Headphones:
These headphones are the best versatile headphones I have ever used. You can use it with your mp3 player or on your computer and they sound great either way. Although if you have low quality mp3s you can actually hear the imperfections with these.
The case that comes with it is also great, I use it every day for transporting it. The surround your ear as apposed to just sit on your ear and make them sweaty. It's the best quality headphones that Sony makes for the price.
The only thing that I would improve about them is the padding. It feels a bit like the padding you would see on cheaper headphones. Even the v700's have better quality padding, but if you care about sound quality it's not a big worry.
Make sure you order from B&H to insure you get a legit pair and not knockoffs.

Comments about Sony MDR-V900HD - Stereo Studio Headphones:
Because of its low Ohm rating and high Sensitivity rating, this is an outstanding studio headphone for iPods. I only use half the volume on these. Most people would find them very comfortable; my ears are big so after awhile, they get a little sensitive, but I love them. I listened to the new $300 Bose QC15 and these, to me, are superior. They cover beyond the entire human hearing range. I like the long 10ft curled wire. [...]everything was perfect.

Comments about Sony MDR-V900HD - Stereo Studio Headphones:
First of all, these are the "real" v900HD's, not the $40 dollar "Fonys" on [...]. These have the glossy black cups not the purple knock off cups. As for the cans themselves, I am very happy with them, as they fit my djing needs very well. When placed directly over my ears, outside noise is barley heard. They are very comfortable and the fit is good. They are very efficient. I have noticed that I don't need to turn up my head phone volume on my mixer as loud when I'm trying to cue up a song as compared to my previous head phones. They are very clear and seem to have a lot of "high end" frequences in them. This is good when your djing on a bigger system or when there is a lot of bass because these head phones "cut" through the rumble allowing the listener greater ease of beat matching. Having said that, they might not be for the person who wants to use them as purely listening headphones because the response may lack some bass or at least that is my opinion. They are listed as a studio headphone probably because of their flat response. As for price, B&H had the best price, hence my purchase. [...]

I bought the MDR-V900HD to use with my portable devices because of its low impedance and high Sensitivity. I am able to hear more unique detail and atmosphere around each track than I've ever hear with my other headphones. My iPod 5G also has plenty of headroom left as I only have to turn the device to about 60% full volume to do most of my louder listening. I am also very impressed with the comfort factor and able to wear them for several hours without any headaches or pressure discomfort. I highly recommend these to anyone with a portable device as well as studio use.

I bought this product as a gift for my fiance, who also happens to be an experienced DJ, and he loves them to death. He says he sound quality is very crisp and clean. The only thing that could be changed is the cord connected to the headphones - it is very easy to get tangled up in it.

Amazing compared to cheap headphones. Notice how much my soundcard bites now and have to upgrade it! Durable, portable and comfortable. Brown leather? Good bang for buck. 3 Watts, wow! Real comparison would be with some Sennheisers or the like.

The sound is so crisp, clear and pure. I can hear the littlest detail that was hidden with prior headphones. The definition is so good it really does sound like a live performance in your head.

Sound:
I use MDR-V900HD headphones for mixing and recording. I have done mixes using these MDR-V900HD's exclusively, and the mixes translated very well to other systems. Most will suggest not to mix exclusively on headphones, but I haven't encountered any problems doing so with this set. I've tested the mixes on my car stereo, home stereo, other headphones, and iPod earphones; they all translated almost perfectly. These headphones don't distort at high volume. At normal volume, I haven't experienced any fatigue during lengthy sessions like some other sets I've used.
Comfort:
These are very comfortable headphones. The ear pads cover my ears entirely putting no pressure on them. My only gripe is that they tend to make me sweat during long use, although this happens with most closed-back, leather padded headphones I've used. I suggest taking breaks to get some air.
Construction:
These headphones seem to be very durable. I used to worry about the folding design with previous Sony headphones I have owned, but I've never had a problem. The cord is not user replaceable, but it seems sturdy enough to last for years.
Look:
Looking at the photo on this site, the MDR-V900HD's appear to be all black. The leather ear pads and headband are actually a very dark brown color. It doesn't look bad, but it wasn't what I expected when I had first seen them in person. The ear cups are glossy black plastic with a silver ring that goes around the edge giving the V900HD's a very classy look.
