The Epson Perfection 4490 Office offers fully automatic scanning for increased productivity, plus two advanced scanning modes for greater control. Convenient film holders accommodate multiple 35mm slides and negatives, plus medium format film. And, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ensures fast data transfer. There's even a fully featured software package that includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, ABBYY FineReader Sprint and more.
The included automatic document feeder holds up to 30 sheets (17 lb. paper, Legal, Letter, A4 or smaller), and can scan three black-and-white pages per minute at 300 dpi, or two full color pages per minute at 300 dpi.

Setup was a breeze. The software worked exactly as it stated in the instructions. I found it easier to use than other scanner software.
I use this for scanning mostly 8 x11 documents but I tried scanning a business card the other day. It took a few tries to understand how to use the media plate accessory but I got it done.
Its operation is louder that I expected. My previous Microtek scanner was quieter. But, its a lot faster. The feeder works almost everytime. Only one jam so far.

I have just started working with the scanner and as I newbie I am pretty happy. It is relatively fast for manually placed objects. The automated document feeder is somewhat finicky so that it requires your attention. Large (80pages) jobs took me about 30 minutes, so the practical page scans per minute is a lot lower than advertised. However, this is not surprising considering this is a home scanner. The software is relatively straightforward. Overall its pretty good and serves the needs of a small home office.

Before purchase, I was informed the automatic document feeder could handle photos. This is not the case as every second or third photo, the feeder jams. It is not worth the extra money.

I purchased this scanner exclusively for its auto feed feature - allowing me to scan document packages (uo to 30 pages at a time) with great ease. Once I had figured out the correct settings in the Epson Scan software (comes with the scanner) and make it work with my already installed Adobe Professional software, I was able to scan quickly and without hang ups. Assembly is easy if the included instructions are followed step-by-step. However, preparation of all document pages is important to avoid paper jams: creased edges, staples, or tears are no-nos (like with the autofeed of a copier). I own another Epson scanner and have always been impressed with the resolution offered. Highly recommended!
