DVD does a beautiful job of clearly addressing proper technique with excellent demonstrations that illustrate how simple and how great an interview can be shot. Self-education through written material has been a bit frustrating because of non-essential information bog and my inability to conceptualize right versus wrong methods and their outcomes. This video addressed both of these frustrations – it covered exactly what I needed to know and clearly illustrated the outcome differences in technique. It includes great information on compostion, when to use wide and tight shots, necessary equipment, using practicals, kicker lights, how to eliminate eye glass reflection, and more. I had previously purchased a 3-point lighting instructional video that was poorly done - it resulted in my adopting poor technique and producing inferior product. Seeing how to do it right and how simple it is to do it right is a real inspiration. To me this video is worth much much more than selling price. Thank you Doug Jensen!

There were a lot of helpful things in this video but it felt a little outdated (granted the technology is moving very fast, but I didn't like seeing footage shot on what looked like analog beta-cam, but this was only a few instances). Vortex Media presents all the tools and tips you need to shoot ONE type of interview. A very nice looking, well lit interview, but just one scenario. Towards the end they round things out with a few tips about filters and such, which were helpful. I guess I was disappointed because Vortex Media has produced amazing videos, since this one, that run about three hours each, and are very thorough. This video on shooting interviews is only one hour long. It felt very rushed. I was expecting a fuller education on lighting --- perhaps advice on different types of lighting, using gels to balance different lights, advantages of tungsten vs. florescent, etc, etc. Overall the video does what the title says (only it should be singular-INTERVIEW) but could use some updating and should be much longer.

I wish all instructional videos were this good. He knows his stuff and really provides a great deal of information in one hour. I just wish he would talk about building a kit with cool light options, LED or fluorescent. I am starting from scratch and don't want to go the hot light route. It also would have been nice if he covered audio and interviewing techniques. Then this would really be a complete package. Still, for the price, it's a good value and will save you from making a lot mistakes. In fact, the best thing about this video are the clips of interviews that you don't want your work to look like.

Excellent video. You get to see everything as he explains it. He gives detail on how to choose the lighting for the job, positioning, background, cookies, etc. I learned more from this video than from many class lectures I've sat through. I also plan on using his warming cards for color cast corrections.

This is great training for a newcomer learning three-point lighting and other details of lighting an interview. I learned more in this 60 minute DVD than I have in many hours of searching YouTube for demo videos. Lots of details. Lots of helpful hints. I expect that even those with some experience will learn from this DVD. Certainly, for a newcomer, I can't imagine it being done any better than this DVD.

I have shot several "show up, throw it up and shoot" news style interviews in my career. I knew of a longer format documentary style project coming up and wanted that job BAD! So, I picked up this video hoping for a few pointer. What I got was outstanding easy to flow instructions for a expensive lighting package. I impressed the producer and nailed the job!!!! Thank Doug Jensen!

This is a very helpful, clear, concise, easy-to-follow guide that really will dramatically improve your ability to light talking heads. The author covers all the basics plus some advanced topics, too. I've been shooting interviews for several years now but wanted to see how others are doing it (there really are limitless ways to light talking heads.) I definitely learned some cool tricks and tips from the author.

I was really confused about doing "head-shot" interviews as there are so many types of equipment available.Doug Jensen's suggestions made perfect sense and his list of basic equipment to perform great-looking interviews came in slightly under $1500!Great advice for beginners or those with experience.
