The Zeiss Ikon 35mm Rangefinder Manual Focus Camera Body combines a classical design with easy-to-use operation. Features and controls are designed to make practical photography comfortable and free from unpleasant surprises caused by the camera. Manual or auto TTL exposure metering as well as an AE-lock function gives you complete control of the exposure situation.
Unlike 35 mm SLR camera viewfinders that can only show little more than 90% of what will be recorded on film, the Zeiss Ikon viewfinder lets you see the area that surrounds the actual image giving you greater possibilities and confidence as you compose each image. What's more, the triangulation rangefinder combined with a viewfinder base that is the widest available means that you can expect extreme accuracy and wide-angle focusing precision.
Because it features an M-mount, you can use existing Leica or Voigtlander M-mount type lenses, or upgrade to Carl Zeiss lenses, over time.

Comments about Zeiss Ikon 35mm Rangefinder Camera Body -Black:
when talking about rangefinders, leicas seem to be the point of measure, i don't judge this camera by leica standards, instead i'll just compared them as any camera in this segment. the price is the first attractive point, and when you finally get to hold camera you'll really enjoy it. it's light, simple to use, elegant and feels pretty good mechanicaly, smooth on operation. the meter concurs with my other cameras, and my leica glass fits perfectly. loading film is pretty standard, not better than leica, it's just that a leica loads film the same way for the past 70 years (just open up a III series). comparing to the M7 i like the Zeiss more only because it uses half the batteries, the other thing i like better than leica is the metal shutter curtain, although leica makes their point on cloth shutter because of tradition and silence, i feel that a metal curtain is more resistant to daily use, and won't burn a whole if exposed to light for long periods. the viewfinder is very easy to read and frame, except for my only complain about this camera, the focusing window is less contrasty than other cameras, again leica (m6, m7, mp, and finally the grand daddy m3) but only in low light situations, nothing to worry about, but that why i give it 4 stars. i only wish that sales are good on this camera because i love rangefinders and would like to see new products and more competition. other companies should consider this system as well. i think that i would be a dream come true to see entries from nikon and canon, just like in the sixties, wouldn't you? Zeiss, great product, keep up the good work.

Comments about Zeiss Ikon 35mm Rangefinder Camera Body -Black:
Not many bodies are as sturdy as a Leica M, but I was pleasantly surprised at the solid feel of the ZI. The viewfinder brings back the glory days of 35mm film cameras, with the bright, clear finder. With the 50/2 Planar, the framelines make for easy composition. It's a keeper for me.
