Comments about SIIG 2-Port FireWire-400 ExpressCard/34 Expansion Card:
General:
All users that have a Firewire Audio interface or other firewire gear knows that, in some situations, the COMPATIBILITY between the firewire ports/chipset and the computer is a problem. I have research and find that the SIIG firewire is a "no error" try for notebook based aplications.
In use:
Only unpacked, put the card in my notebook (Windows 7 x64 based) and runs perfectly! Put my Audio interface and runs great. With no "clicks" and 'pops" and other problems. And have the option with power supply, to power external gear. Great!
Conclusion:
This is a great piece of gear. If you are a serious professional or hobbyst, that want you gear running smoothly and with no surprises, take the Siig FireWire with eyes closed and you can concentrate in recording, only. No more compatibility problems.
I'm Daniel Huber from Brasil. Sorry for my bad english write!

Comments about SIIG 2-Port FireWire-400 ExpressCard/34 Expansion Card:
To facilitate an outboard audio interface, I needed this Expansion Card to take my PC laptop from a 4-pin Firewire 800 output to a 6-pin Firewire 400 output. The audio interface is self-powered, but was supposed to be able to take its power from the computer - if the computer had a 6-pin. It turns out, this didn't power the audio interface. However, SIIG never promised it would power any and all interfaces; even offering an AC adapter for purchase (that actually plugs into this Expansion Card). It didn't seem necessary, though, to power this card when the audio interface already has its own power.
No matter... I believe this card actually improves latency performance when audio sound samples are played through my computer's music software (using a MIDI keyboard as input device) over simply using the computer's onboard Firewire 800 port.
The maker of the audio interface (Focusrite) recommends this SIIG card, also, for its reliability.

Comments about SIIG 2-Port FireWire-400 ExpressCard/34 Expansion Card:
I purchased this as more of a backup or alternative. I'm using SDHC cards on my camera but I know there are still times that I'd need to import video on my laptop via IEEE 1394. This product works great. Reasonably priced too which makes it a logical purchase... even if you just keep it in your back on standby.

Comments about SIIG 2-Port FireWire-400 ExpressCard/34 Expansion Card:
I have an HP HDX Premium Series laptop that has a Firewire port. I recently purchased a Profire Firewire audio interface to record guitar/vocals and drums. Whenever I tried to use my audio software the ASIO drivers crashed and I was unable to record or listen to audio. To cut a long story short, it turns out that not all IEEE-1394 (Firewire) chipsets are the same. I bought the SIIG Firewire expresscard because it uses the TI Firewire chipset. [...]it installed on my 64-bit Vista machine flawlessly without manufacturers drivers and I have been recording music ever since.I love this card as I thought my only option was to go out and buy a MAC to solve my problems when I have a PC that does everything I need it to do.My only issue is that the Expresscard format is slim and I worry that I might knock the card and disconnect it (so far this has not happened).Other users have complained that it does not come with the power adapter which can be purchased separately. In my case this is not an issue because my Firewire device has its own auxiliary power.

Comments about SIIG 2-Port FireWire-400 ExpressCard/34 Expansion Card:
I bought it just for connecting my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED to my HP Pavilion tc 1320 us Notebook. The former has only firewire connection and the latter has only expresscard slot. It performed percectly. Once in a while when starting up the scanning program Nikon Scan 4.0, it cannot find the scanner. When that happens, all I have to do is to restart the scanner and the program recognizes the scanner immediately.
