This is an excellent drive, well-built, fast, and very reliable. I used one for a long time in my old G4 with an added SATA card, and it worked great. So, I got 2 more for my new Mac Pro and set them up as a RAID 1. A disc speed utility shows that the actual, in-use read/write data transfer speed is over 20MB/sec,more than adequate for DV or HDV. And the price is also great. (I have been using Seagate drives for years with not a single problem, but the 9GB SCSI Barracuda drive I bought years ago for my first nonlinear editing system cost almost $1000). Times change.

This will be my second Seagate SATA. I currently use a 1.5TB and bought this one for my sons computer which I just built. Tried the others and found them seriously lacking, mainly in stability. When I told my son he would have 500GB, he said that is too much. I told him that was not what was important, knowing that the system uses the extra space. I added this drive to an HP Pavilion Elite d5200t ATX PC that is connected to my A/V system to store music and video, and the drive was an exact match to the drive that came installed in the machine. Plug and play with the SATA connection. Power cable was right where it needed to be. No problems whatsoever. Needed to be a very quiet drive, and it is.
