The Dual Aviator is a true binocular design night vision goggle. Night vision goggles provide safety while piloting helicopters and low altitude planes at night or in low light conditions. The unit can also be also be used for other activities including boating, search and rescue missions, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition. The dual eye design incorporates two advanced image intensifiers, providing true stereoscopic night vision. The mounting system allows for quick attachment of the goggles to the helmet and the possibility of flipping the goggles up for unobstructed vision. When the goggle is flipped up, an automatic sensor turns the unit off to conserve battery power. At the heart of this NVD there are two second generation plus XT intensifiers. These tubes provide a specified resolution of 57-64 lp/mm. They also boast a 50 percent longer lifespan than their HD counterparts. Second generation plus units represent a fantastic value, providing incredible levels of resolution while remaining competitively priced. This model features XT class intensifiers, with a significantly greater resolution than the HD version.
There are many different variables that effect the distance that one can see with a night vision device, among them the object's size, the level of details being sought from the object and the conditions of observation. Night vision devices detect much further under a full moon and clear skies than they will under a new moon and cloudy skies. Many different formulas are used to determine the statistic of maximum viewing range and this varies by manufacturer, so ultimately the generation of the intensifier tube is much more relevant than any quoted statistic when determining the maximum viewing range.
All night vision devices sold by B&H have mechanisms in place to protect the intensifier tube from a sudden burst of bright light, but this does not mean that bright light doesn't damage the device. Bright light in any form is not good for the longevity and performance of image intensifier tubes.
