The Cavision 5 x 5" Glass Filter Set contains the basics to get you going with everything from scenics to portraits.
Linear Polarizing Filter
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Soft Mist Black Filter
This diffusion filter cuts sharpness and reduces contrast. It also holds back your highlights to produce an image that is "soft" but which does not look like a traditional soft focus filter.
Neutral Density 0.6 Filter
Neutral Density filters have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.
Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates average situations.
Graduated Blue and Graduated Orange Filters
With graduated filters, often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes.
Sometimes it is desirable to add color to part of the photograph. For example, to add blue to only the sky. Cavision Color Graduated filters are half-color, half-clear, with a graduated transition for blending into the scene. They are available in an array of colors.
Cavision Graduated filters give you the control you need to create a scene as opposed to just shooting a scene. The grads are medium soft edge filters.
Note! Linear polarizers are used with most video and manual focus photo cameras. They are not recommended for auto-focus SLR cameras
