I find it annoying that to assemble the poles together it requires you to use an alan wrench to secure them together. As a travel photographer i would not suggest getting this background system unless you want to carry around extra alan wrenches incase the TSA loses yours while rummaging in your bags.

Love this! I've owned previous stands and were not as strong but this holds my paper roll very well

Comments about Smith-Victor Grande Background Paper Rack (12.5', Light Stands and Case):
First time I used this thing it fell over because the stands are so flimsy and don't have wide enough of a base to be going so tall. It's a pain to setup, not difficult, but a pain. It takes away my precious time. The majority of my seamless paper was ruined when it fell, had to try to salvage what I could from the 9' roll and tape it to the wall (which I will continue to do in the future and what I have always done), should have just stuck to what I know. Now I have tons of extra editing to do to take out the seams where I patched paper together.

although it doesn't seem too steady, it is very easy to assemble and it is strong enough to hold the 12' muslim.

I purchased this for studio use, and it's a great product for the price. It can become a bit unstable when extended to 8 ft or more, but so can many other systems. I would recommend attaching weights for more stability.

Kind of on the lights weight side, stands not as stable as I would like. Cross beam a pain to put together and take apart.

You can use it as a background stand - with adjustable with - or you can use the light stands. It's nice for people that don't have a dedicated room as a studio
I was expecting a bit stronger stands - but for the price I guess it's ok

Went off of the comments and bought this so it would carry the weight of an 8 x 20 vinyl background. Great portable stand.
