The best sound quality (and 5.1 surround experience) with only 2.1 speakers system. Very clean and sharp sound. Powerfull enough, considering that this is only computer system. I own creative 5.1 computer speakers and they are nothing comparing this this Bose system. Totally worth the price. Watching movies or playing music is how it supose to be. Not to mention that you don't need any special sound cards since this is using USB. If you are looking for quality get the Bose... lesson learned.

Hooked up to an iMac, this unit is a true window-rattler. Best computer audio I've ever heard. If blindfolded, I doubt the listener would think they're hearing computer audio. It remains a mystery to me how Bose can make such big noises come from such small, unobtrusive components. With the supplied sub-woofer planted beneath your desk, you can literally feel the music in your gut. What a feeling!

I actually bought the Bose Companion Five system as a temporary speaker system for my living room until I get my regular system set up (something that won't happen for a few months). I know the Bose is really best utilized as a computer speaker system but I had heard the system at [@] (but eventually decided to buy it from B&H Photo!) and thought it just might work as an interim set-up. WELL IT DID and actually exceeds my expectations in a large living room. I have it hooked up to a laptop and the system is glorious to listen to. B&H Photo were also quite pleasant to deal with.

These computer speakers are outstanding! The Qaulity of them are outstanding, They don't feel cheap. You can be unmounted them from the stand. The Control Pod is really great for quick mute. The Surround Sound is incredible.

Decent computer speakers. I was getting very tired of altec lansing, cambridge soundworks, and logitech speakers. They always seemed overpriced for what I was getting. They either felt chintzy or they would fail after a year or two. With those brands, the sound was usually okay... but never impressive. I was a little hesitant about the USB interface. I was under the (mistaken) impression that they would require drivers and that Bose might one day no longer support my OS. As it turns out, no special drivers were required. So as long as MS continues to support USB speakers, I shouldn't have to worry. MP's sound great. Games sound great. If I were to complain about anything, it would be that the speakers go to 'sleep' when the computer is shut down. When the computer is powered up, the speaker need to be unmuted to turn the sound back on. (The mute function is controlled by a touch sensitive surface on the controller -- which is pretty cool in and of itself!) -- but, for all I know there might be a way to change that behavior. It's not really that big a deal that I want to research it (or read the manual!)

This speaker system introduced me to fine sound again. I remember many years ago spending 1000 dollars on Acoustic Research speakers for super pure sound. Today that would be a 3500 dollar speaker system. When I plugged my new Bose Companion 5 system in I remembered that super sound quality. I consider these Bose speakers one of the best purchases I've made in years.

This system is plugged into a top-of-the-line Dell XPS 730x. It's got a good sound, so there are no complaints about the quality. The things that cause you to scratch your head and wonder are: (1) the main box is rectangular, about 18 inches long. The bass control is on the back of the box. You cannot set with everthing in listening position and adjust that control. (2) the on-off switch is super-sensitive. I am always brushing it and turning it off. (3) the sound is always off when the computer comes out of sleep or shutdown. (4) the speakers should swivel to vertical to save room, and (5) there are no volume control markings. Sheesh! Who thought of this design?

Love it! I've been a huge fan of Bose for over 25 years. Recently purchased the new ear phones as well. Needed these to get good sound for my editing films. The quality is tremendous and exceeds my expectations.

Incredibly easy to set up - one USB cord to the computer and a few speaker wires that are impossible to mess up.

Sound is better than my home stereo - clean, crisp, rich and completely enveloping.

I have had some difficulty hooking my headphone/microphone combination to the unit on the desk that is the central control. I cannot get the microphone (logitech headset) to work at all through this unit. Had to plug it in the back of the PC.

I use the Bose Companion 5.5 with my desktop computer. I have an external drive that has over 60,000 songs. I use iTunes and a mix of VBRs and a mix of format. Many of these songs, (I would guess around 80%) when played, you will discover are have been rendered more crisp, and more importantly, spacial. The most remarkable feat is that I hear so much more within the songs than before. I hear the chorus separated from the primary vocalist. I hear new (to my ears) dissimilar percussion that becomes one, massive tiny nuances to the 80% of songs. A few weeks back, a friend of mine came over for pizza and beer and I had R.E.M.'s "Monster" album playing. After a few songs, she asked if this was a new remastered album. You can assign volume levels for every song that you own. Nothing used to irk me more than going from a loud song into a track that was revised or tweaked until a very low-volume, sometimes muffled disk is the end result. This is a new release.Say for instance, you buy a newly released album. On first few plays, the songs sound great. A few days forward you hear a song from that same album and find that it is hopelessly quiet on your mix CD. 2 choices: Turn it up, or skip it. =/So again, when you come across one of these songs, or entire albums, you can move the volume playback for each song or each album (make sure to check the box that says "remember to. The same goes for albums that are obnoxiously loud. I really recommend using this feature instead of trying to fix the track with software. If you knock the volume too high, it will distort and it is now ruined - unless you've made a copy, which you've always done, right? Along with individual song sound levels, you can give each song its own equalizer setting. You can tell I-tunes to start a particular song 0:45 into the track, because it is like stupid banter, or whatever. You can fade out - this is a great feature.Moreover, a fair number of albums have a "hidden" song, and it is just stuck on the end last track. You put the CD in to rip and find that track number 16, the last song, is 19:42. Actually, track 16 is just 4:00 long. Additionally, you should find the hidden track by going to the end of the CD and working backwards. I have found most of those hidden songs probably are well to stay hidden. But, you might find a gem in there. You can use software (audacity, MP3Trim (both freeware) come to mind, but there are thousands of these download sites. Stick with sites you are familiar with: [@]
